Let's start out by saying Ben is someone that LOVES to eat. It has not always been that way. When Ben was born he had what doctors call an inability to thrive. In fact, Ben weighed less at one year old then he did at birth. Eventually he overcame that, and by looking at him that is clearly evident. Ben was never overly active. A good workout to him is an hour at the bowling alley. Getting Ben to exercise always had to come with a reward for doing it. That was until we joined Razor Sharp.

After Ben's first try at Zumba he was hooked. Exercise was no longer a chore. He absolutely loved it! Everyone in the class made him feel so welcome, he insisted on coming back again and again. Now it is his mandatory routine on Tuesdays and Fridays and sometimes on Wednesdays. He is easy to spot because he is the one going left when everyone else is going right. He is the one going forward when the rest of the class is going backward. He definitely is giving it is all! Beatriz has been such a great motivator and has always made Ben feel welcome. To Ben, Razor Sharp is just not a gym. It is a place where he finds friendship and acceptance for who he is. Life is not always easy for special needs kids. Once you get to know Ben, you can't help but love him. His honesty and purist attitude towards life is something we all could learn from. Ben is just an ordinary kid that happens to have Downs, or "Ups" as Ben refers to it.

Ben has been going to Zumba classes for about 1 year. As of today he has lost a total of 24 pounds! He is clearly on his way to meeting his goal of losing 40 pounds although losing is the easy part, keeping it off will be the real challenge!!

Greetings!

Hello and welcome to the September issue of the Razor Sharp Fitness newletter! We're pleased to announce that Razor Sharp will be opening a new "satellite" club on the Northside of Racine. We are very excited about this venture and it will be a great enhancement to our current offering. Below is some preliminary information. In the coming weeks, look for more details posted throughout the club and sent to your inbox!

This 7,000 sq ft club will be open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. It will have 25 pieces of cardio equipment, strength training machines, free weights, and a large stretching and functional training area as well as a men's and women's locker room. It will be located at the corner of Erie and 3 Mile Rd., in the Shorecrest Shopping Mall and it will not cost you extra to use this facility. All current members will have access to the Northside location at no additional charge.

You will have two options for membership. You can either join just the Northside location, or pay our current dues and have unlimited access to both clubs.

This is just the beginning of our growth over the next several years! Thanks for being loyal members and making Razor Sharp the best club in Racine!!!

  • Simple Steps to Combat an Aging Face
  • Living a healthy lifestyle is good for your body and your skin. Here are some easy ways that you can help your skin stay looking its best!

    • Sleep on your back. Sleeping on your back prevents your skin from being pulled. If you can't sleep on your back, get a satin or sateen pillow case.
    • Eat Salmon. Hate fish? then have an Omega-3. We need soy, Omega-3 and the protein in fish for healthy skin.
    • Stop Squinting. We do a good job wearing sunglasses but think about purchasing some "readers" if you are overworking those muscles around your eyes.
    • Limit Caffeine. Too much caffeine affects the hydration level of your skin. Try green tea or cocoa.
    • Eat plenty of Citrus.
    • Wear a hat. Keeping your face from the sun will keep years off your face as you age.
    • Exfoliate your skin on a regular basis to help the cell turnover.
    • When cleansing and moisturizing your skin, purchase a product with Alpha Hydroxy Acid. This will help smooth skin, retain moisture and assist in reducing cell adhesion. With winter approaching, keeping your skin hydrated is an important step in maintaining healthy skin.
