Members of the Month: Angela Cervera & Patrick Salm
Patrick and I met in April of 2003 and were engaged about a second later. Like many people who take themselves off the singles' market when they fall in love, we indulged our mutual love of food. We smiled. We laughed. We ate. We drank. Our situation was probably amplified by the fact that Patrick is a chef and a good one at that. Existing in our own bubble, we failed to realize just how out of control our habits had become.
During the fall of 2009, Patrick went to the doctor and discovered that his blood pressure and cholesterol were sky high and he was pre-diabetic. As for me, I was finding that shopping for clothing in the women's section was becoming, not just limited, but frankly, scary; there were not many sizes left to choose from. Something needed to change.
At the end of December 2009, we started a sensible weight loss program. Patrick dropped weight very quickly. I kept plugging along. We learned that we could lose weight without working out, but that we would need to incorporate exercise if we wanted to achieve sustainable weight loss. By giving up a little bit of TV time, we re-embraced our long-forgotten inner athletes.
I decided to keep the momentum going by joining Razor Sharp. As a teacher, I have always been a really good student, so I liked the idea of attending structured classes. Though I was originally going to join by myself, Patrick wanted to be included too. So now, you will frequently see us smiling and sweating together in Step It Up, Cardio Kick, or Zumba.
It has been just over a year since we started this journey. Patrick has lost 100 pounds! I've almost caught up to him; I've lost 96! We aren't done yet either. We see our time spent at Razor Sharp, not as a temporary diet or fad, but as a lifestyle change. And no longer dissatisfied with our outward appearance, we are planning for our 2012 wedding. Finally.

| Acupuncture Can Improve Health and Reduce Stress |
| |
Who these days isn't struggling with a health issue or feeling stressed out. One way to feel better is through acupuncture. Acupuncture balances the body's energy systems. Our life styles, thought patterns and diets create imbalance in the body. Acupuncture helps to balance these energy systems through acupuncture points. These points are gateways to the body's energy flow. They help to take the "load" off of excess and redirect that Qi (loosely translated as energy) to the areas in your body that are deficient.
Reducing stress can also be accomplished by balancing your body's energy. A little stress is actually good for you, but most people today experience far too much of it. Experience these high stress levels day after day makes it very difficult for your body to relax and balance; regular acupuncture treatments are a powerful way to enable this relaxation and balance. To find out how acupuncture can help you, call the front desk and schedule an appointment with Kelly Westerlund.
