February Member of the Month - Michael Koch
Mike

I was always athletic and played sports regularly throughout high school, but I never used to take working out seriously. Once I got to college, my sports playing decreased dramatically and I continued to avoid working out. Needless to say my diet was terrible as well. After about 6 years of this, I had gained a bit of a "spare tire" in my midsection.

After school ended, I was given an employment opportunity with a federal law enforcement agency. Although I had the intelligence for the job, the requirements were very strict regarding the fitness standards. A fitness test involving strength, speed, and conditioning would have to take place and a minimum score of 10 had to be achieved if I was going to continue on this path. I knew I was going to need some help.

I decided to get a membership at Razor Sharp Fitness, and I acquired Ernie Zuberbuehlers help as my personal trainer. After a few months of regular, strenuous training, I finally reached the minimum fitness standards which were required and passed the fitness test for this particular federal agency. I continued working out after this point though, still using some of the skills Ernie taught me, eagerly anticipating the federal training I would soon receive.

To my surprise though, I found out a couple months later that I was going to have to retest, this time achieving a score of at least 15 on the fitness test. Although I was confident about the strength portions, I was uncertain about my conditioning and speed. Over the next month, I again utilized the help of Ernie. This time he had me doing sprints a couple times a week in the gym. By the time the fitness test came around, I was ready. I scored a 20 which put me in line for the next set of training class.

Within the past month I have moved and am now in Virginia training for the job. I am proud to say that I have continued to succeed physically thus far. I am even finding that the small amount of boxing I did with Ernie is helping as well. If it were not for Razor Sharp and the sessions with Ernie, I would not have been able to achieve this. They pushed me from a lazy college student to being able to compete side by side with people fresh out of the military. Thanks for everything, Razor Sharp.

Primary high blood pressure accounts for over 90% of all cases of high blood pressure. According to a study in The Journal of The American Medical Association in May 1996 hypertension is the most common risk factor for congestive heart failure.

One major cause of HBP (High Blood Pressure) is stress. Two things you can do to release the stress that causes your anxiety, anger, frustrations and your inability to relax is proper breathing and good nutrition.

Relaxation Breath - Consciously taking deep breathes throughout the day has the immediate effect of calming you down. Breathe in through your nose and blow it out your mouth. While taking in a breath make sure you are pushing out your stomach- it helps to place your hand on your stomach. This makes your diaphragm muscle work and allows you to take in more air.
