Making Fitness a Family Affair
Darci Habighorst is Razor Sharp's member of the
month for March. She and her daughter Kayla, have
made great strides in their physical fitness since
becoming members last November. Darci and her
daughter come into the gym almost every day-
sometimes twice!
In addition to walking in the gym, participating in
classes, and strength training, Darci is participating in
the "New Year, New You 2009 Fitness Challenge."
She currently has the second highest number of
points in the contest, out of 97 participants!
In addition to her participation in Razor Sharp
activities, she and Kayla have built up enough
strength to compete in their first physical charity
event. They completed the "Climb Wisconsin"
fundraiser, which raised money for the American
Lung
Association. The event was held at the US Bank
building in Milwaukee and consisted of climbing
1,034 steps.
Kayla completed the challenge in 13 minutes and 58
seconds and Darci finished in 15 minutes and 5
seconds. They are not stopping there though- Darci
says that they plan to participate in a walk for Austism
this July!
We commend Darci for setting a good fitness
example for her teenage daughter, and we applaud
her efforts in making the commitment to improve their
health and fitness together, while donating their time
to charitable events at the same time! Great job
ladies!

Treating Shoulder Injuries with Acupuncture |
|
The most common injury affecting the shoulder is a
rotator cuff tear. This is a ripping of one or more of the
tendons associated with the muscles in the shoulder.
The muscles involved are the supraspinatus,
infraspinatus, teres minor and subscapularis. Over
exertion from repeated movements required to raise
the arm over the head in such sports as baseball,
swimming, tennis, and weight lifting can cause a tear
or inflammation which causes pain.
In addition to repetitive movements, age can
contribute to degeneration of the shoulder muscle
group. Degeneration can start by age 40, so care
should be taken to not overexert the upper shoulder
muscles without giving them enough rest between
workouts. Acupuncture can help relieve pain caused
by the above injuries.
