A Testimonial on Buddy Training
Jeremiah Towery and I, Jeff McMahon, have worked
out together for almost two years. We share articles
about work out programs and exercise and we inspire
each other to work hard. Jeremiah and I used to lift
weights after work, and then we'd fit in a boot camp in
the evenings or on Saturdays. It was a good way for
us to get into the gym and get the work done. Now we
have a different approach to working out. We are into
nutrition, as much as we are into exercise. It simply
can not get done with out eating right.
Suzanne Williamson, Razor's Wellness Consultant
has helped me with that assessment. I am 20 years
older than Jeremiah so my metabolism is very
different. Of course, if you have ever seen Jeremiah
there are few people who have his metabolic rate!
Jeremiah helps me focus on the nutrition side at work
and he is always encouraging to others as well. I
record everything I eat and weigh myself every Monday
and so far I am losing a comfortable 1.5 lbs a week.
Our workouts now consist of the highest intensity
training we can manage. We work out with such
intensity that we don't even speak to each other-
because we can't! Jeremiah and I motivate each
other, by the amount of perspiration we put forth and
are very focused and driven to "bring it" when
whenever we are in the gym. We don't mess around
when it comes to exercise and we are always looking
for ways to challenge ourselves even to the extreme.
We box with Ernie two times a week and then do a
very difficult "300" work out two times a week during
lunch (trust me when I say that you don't want any of
that one)! Jeremiah and I also work out on Fridays,
and try to get in a boot camp as well. Sometimes we
work out 7 or even 8 times a week! Wow, am I doing
that?!
The cool thing about it all is that it's now just a way of
life for us. I plan my entire week/day around my
workouts and what I need to eat to be able to perform
that day. You have to commit to the time it takes, and
just do it for you. You even have to be a little selfish
because who else is going to work on you? Of
course, it helps me greatly to have someone like
Jeremiah to work out with. I can't measure it or know
how lucky I am. We never have to drag each other to
work out because we want to do it.
As I write this, I know today's work out will be tough for
both of us but we will gladly do it. We won't let each
other down in our quest to go faster, or to do every rep
because next time, it will get a little easier.

"Cellular Energy & the Role of ATP" Part 2

What is ATP? ATP stands for Adenosine
Triphosphate, an energy-rich chemical compound
that provides virtually all the energy your body needs
to power all body functions. Our bodies must be
continuously supplied with energy to perform its many
complex needs. As our body's energy demands
increase with exercise, work, or in various disease
states, there must be a way to bring additional energy
to our cells to help us function at optimal levels. This
is what ATP does. It is sort of like a carrier of energy to
the cells. We need ATP to make our hearts beat, to
give our muscles power when we demand it, and to
maintain our everyday lives. Without adequate ATP
stores, we could not walk, run, breathe, or even have
blood flow through our bodies.
When we digest fats, carbohydrates and proteins for
energy we call this "metabolism." ATP is the major
form of energy used for this cellular metabolism.
In order for our muscles to move, we need ATP.
Basically there are 2 proteins in muscles that cause
them to move: actin and myosin. They act as sort of a
ratchet system. The actin has indentations where
one end of the myosin can attach. When myosin is
given energy it moves one notch down on the actin.
This process happens to make the muscle contract.
Simply, ATP gives energy to the muscle to power
contraction.
A body at rest produces all the ATP it needs.
However, in stressful conditions such as strenuous,
high intensity exercise or various diseases, ATP
cannot be replaced fast enough. If your body is not
subjected to physical stress, you don't need
additional ATP. "Weekend warriors" have the entire
week to restore their muscle-energy stores between
exercise bouts and may not need ATP to maintain
optimum cellular energy levels. In contrast, those
who strenuously exercise during the week may have
trouble keeping up with cellular energy levels and
could use a little help from ATP products. Coenzyme
Q10 (CoQ10) is a unique vitamin-like, fat-soluble
coenzyme that acts as a critical link for ATP
production.

Acupuncture for Weight Loss

Acupuncture can support your goals of weight loss by
releasing endorphins. This has a calming and
relaxing effect that will make it easier to deal with
stress, frustration and anxiety which, in turn, triggers
overeating and bingeing. After a complete initial
consultation, points are chosen for your specific
eating triggers.
Needles are inserted into those specific points on the
body, and in the ear which release the endorphins
that affect the digestive and hormonal systems. This
helps your body rebalance organ systems that are
running too slow.
