Deer Crashes Through Gallery Window
In the anything can happen category, a deer jumped through the window of a gallery in Alabama this past August. According to an expert at Auburn University, deer have relatively large ranges and it is not uncommon for them to be seen in urban areas.
Luckily for the gallery, the deer jumped back out of the gallery through the same window.
The Catawampus Art Gallery, which features Alabama artists, did not sustain any major damage beyond hoof prints and of course the broken window. The gallery was closed at the time of the accident.

Storm Recovery Process Slow for Connecticut Gallery |
Heavy rains in March ruined dozens of pieces of original artwork worth thousands, and caused plenty of damage to a nearly century-old Connecticut art enclave. While the building looks fine to the untrained eye, a closer look by professionals revealed warped doors, rusting hinges, damaged electrical systems and more. Contractors drilled sample holes to get inside the drywall. Behind it officials found it was damp, and the wall was crumbling. The water also destroyed the association's computers and backup files.
With no insurance, the art association needs to raise $60,000 to make the repairs and officials said $80,000 worth of artwork was destroyed.

Wisconsin Man Claims he was Sold Lennon Forgeries |
A Wisconsin buyer alleges in a recent lawsuit that he was intentionally sold more than $100,000 worth of forged John Lennon artwork and memorabilia. The lawsuit claims he was provided fraudulent certificates of authenticity when he purchased 14 sketches allegedly drawn by the late Beatle. Forensic investigators later examined the sketches and found they were drawn using a type of ink that didn't exist at the time Lennon purportedly drew them, the lawsuit states.
The lawsuit also claims that the plaintiff was sold a microphone that was purportedly used by Lennon while making the "Imagine" album. However, the plaintiff later contacted the company that made the microphone and found out it was made in 1977, six years after the album was made.
This lawsuit again points out the importance of knowing provenance for collectibles as well as fine art.

California Store Pays $550,000 Fine for Discouraging Workers Comp Claims
An investigation determined that managers at a California grocery store regularly suggested that employees turn to their own health insurance for work-related injuries rather than filing workers comp claims. Nearly all states require that employers provide worker comp insurance to cover work-related injuries and diseases.
The store agreed to pay $550,000 in fines and investigation costs, plus $30,000 to an education fund, plus potentially an additional $150,000 for any violations within the next five years.
It is important to know your responsibilities under workers comp laws in your state.
