 Tip

Didn't get your bulbs

 planted last fall?

Get them in the ground as soon as the soil thaws. Normally a chilling period of 10-13 weeks with temperatures below 40 degrees F. is needed to initiate flowering. Mulch after planting to prevent heaving. The bulbs will probably not bloom in the spring, but they may bloom in the summer, or they may wait until next spring to bloom.

Landscape Design in Winter???
It's still cold and there is snow on the ground, so why would you start planning your landscaping now? It turns out that there are plenty of practical reasons to start thinking about your garden and landscape needs for the year and create a landscape design. Take a look:
  • Plan now when you can see the "bones" of your designlandscaping. This is a good time to see where you need to fill in with plants, add windbreaks, shade or privacy screens.
  • It's a nice way to start envisioning spring and summer! Warmer weather is on its way. Start dreaming now of how you want to enhance your outdoor living areas to enjoy in the months to come.
  • Give yourself the ability to plan and install in stages.  The economy has impacted everyone's budget, but planning ahead will give you the ability to see what projects you can afford now and which ones you can save for in the future.
  • Plan ahead for renovation.  If you have purchased a new home or a foreclosed property or are planning to sell your home, your property may be in need of a landscape renovation to enhance your curb appeal, enjoyment and property value. RYCO can not only help you design, install and refurbish your landscaping, but we also offer Architectural Digital Rendering Services to aid you in the remodeling or building of your new home. Check it out.
  • Everyone needs a place to play!  Entertainment can be costly but a backyard retreat for a growing family is priceless.  Play areas for kids - and adults, too! - can be done economically if planned properly.
  • Do you have "milestone celebrations" coming up? If graduations, weddings, bar/bat mitzvahs, birthdays or other events are coming up this year, it may make sense to spruce up your entertainment areas and celebrate at home.
  • Get serious about energy and water conservation. Carefully placed trees and other structures can provide shade to keep your house cool; windbreaks can help keep your house warm and there are a number of ways to have beautiful, green landscaping while saving water.

Feed Trees and Shrubs a Balanced Diet
Your trees and shrubs need a balanced diet to stay healthy.  Deep root fertilization treatment feeds your trees and shrubs a treebalanced blend of nitrogen, phosphorous and potassium to help vigorous root development and active growth throughout the year.  Plants in bedding areas will also benefit from this fertilization.

Deep root feeding in the spring will encourage tip and leaf growth. The best time to fertilize established trees and shrubs is early spring or late winter just as the natural growth cycle is beginning. Feeding in the summer encourages wood production. Fertilizing in the fall develops roots.

Why fertilize trees and shrubs? A fertilization program is used to maintain trees and shrubs in a vigorous condition and to increase their resistance to injury from diseases and insects. Remember, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure in landscaping. Trees and shrubs can be extremely costly to replace. Keeping them healthy and disease-free helps protect your investment.
