Making a Custom Lamp
One of the joys of the lampshop is getting to work with our clients to make unique, personal lamps from items they bring in to us - family treasures, nostalgic lamps from childhood, flea market finds, woodworking projects. After completing any wiring, electrical repairs or other needed work, it's fun to "try on new hats". Some lamps require only a simple shade, others are brought to glorious life with an elaborate or a custom designed shade. Since we make all of our own lampshades it is usually possible to transfer designs or techniques from one size or shape to another, giving us a wide range of design options.
In practice, many lamps look beautiful with a variety of lampshades, and issues of the decorating scheme of a room, the amount and quality of light desired, as well as one's budget, are also to be considered. Our popular "Approval" policy allows customers to take their choice home and try it, sometimes the only way to answer these aesthetic and functional questions. It's also useful when there are other opinions needed prior to finalizing a purchase.
These lamps make especially meaningful gifts for occasions such as weddings, births, anniversaries and house warmings. Additionally, we offer gift certificates and gift registry services.
For more information about designing custom lamps and shades there are several articles, written in collaboration with Sue, on our website: one in Sunset Magazine, the other in Inspired House .
