Each year we present a collection of special lamps and shades.  And each year this group is as eclectic and wonderful as the shop itself.  During Collection Weekend we have the largest group of painted lampshades, hand paper-cuts, specially designed combinations of lamps and shades, and new designs and techniques than we will have at any other time of the year.

What makes a lamp or shade "special"?  Given the fact that we always make unique lamps and shades and always have combinations at the shop that are wonderful, this isn't the easiest question to answer.  Fundamentally, as Sue purchases objects throughout the year she has favorites and these pieces are set aside.  When they are wired into lamps we design and make shades specifically for them. These often represent an extension in technique for each of us in our "specialties".  In addition, this push to do something new or extravagant is encouraged by having an event to aim for, a showcase for that experiment, that spectacular combination and that heartfelt expression of beauty that the best of our work encompasses.

So, what's new?  Well, first of all, come join us Friday evening for a glass of champagne and see for yourself.  It may seem hard to believe, but there are lampshades that I see for the first time that evening!  For themes and groupings I would include the Lindsay Art Glass group, with Sue's colorful mica lampshades, and a fabulous group of goddesses with shades by various artists.  Cherry Blossoms and Butterflies - hand-painted, paper-cut and designs in mica -are two themes that are emerging.  Contemporary Art Pottery, antique cloisonne and prehistoric fossils are also featured.

We will all be at the shop Friday evening so please join us to savor our latest creations.
