What Inspires Us ?

We have described our work as being inspired by nature, and by designs on the lamps that we work with.  But a more recent trove of inspiration has been found in the hand-painted and paper-cut lampshades that were created here by Susan Mattmann during the '80's and early 1990's.
For quite a while no one at the shop felt confident enough to re-create any of the shades that found their way back, but after a number of years of carefully and lovingly repairing and studying the old paper-cut lampshades, Hope Wingert began to re-make some of the designs for customers who couldn't bear to part with their very damaged shades.  In the past several years she has moved into creating her own paper-cut designs, increasing in complexity and daring as she goes along.  And that is inspiration for all of us.

Good luck in our upcoming drawings!

yelping about us   Someone has started a profile of the lampshop on the local review site, yelp.com.  We respect the "real people, real reviews" commitment that yelp promotes, so if any of you have a real review you would like to share, this is the place.

Green Homes   You might want to check this out: long-time and enthusiastic clients Larry and Tam Gray's Berkeley home, with a number of our lamps, is featured in the upcoming day of Green Home Tours June 1 2008.  In addition to building green, the Gray's home is also built for accessibility.
