Greetings!
Our networking events are filling up quickly this year and that's a sign that our technology community is thriving. If you've not yet registered for our upcoming Tech@Breakfast then I encourage you to do so soon. Following the breakfast will be a quick tour of the CAER, our host for the event. And not to be outdone by last year's 10th annual Awards Night, I am very excited to announce that we are once again stepping up our game for this annual event. This year's event will take place on May 15 and is changing format to include a technology conference called TechEDGE. As travel budgets have shrunk we have worked hard to put together an all-star line up of speakers and topics that you can enjoy right here in Region 2000. Ticket information is coming soon but I can assure you this will be the most affordable and valued packed conference you'll attend this year. Contact me directly if you would like sponsorship or exhibitor information. Save the date - May 15.

Many of you have been a part of our regional technology Awards Night and gala that we have hosted for the past 11 years. This year however we are going in a new direction - integrating our regional technology awards into an innovative new conference we are calling ' TechEDGE: 2012'. This year's theme will be " Shaping the Future of Virginia's Region 2000" where we will explore the intersection of leadership, innovation and how technology is shaping/will shape our community in the coming years. It will take place May 15 in downtown Lynchburg at the Holiday Inn from 1-8pm. TechEDGE 2012 is not your 'run of the mill' business conference. As always, it will be a time of gathering for the entire regional technology community but it will also offer new formats for learning, celebrating, and networking... Get the Details >>> |

Virginia's Region 2000 Center for Advanced Engineering and Research (CAER) was featured in Power Engineering magazine's February issue.
"We were delighted to be featured along with our partners AREVA and B&W in this national publication," said CAER Executive Director Bob Bailey. "Our simulated digital control room is the centerpiece for our Center for Safe and Secure Nuclear Energy, and with the current switch from analog to digital instrumentation and control systems in U.S. nuclear plants, this truly puts our R&D center on the map."
The article also highlighted AREVA's human factors testing and B&W's small modular reactor testing facility at CAER.
Power Engineering is a trade publication for the power generation industry. More than 70,000 power generation professionals subscribe to the magazine for expert coverage of the industry's most important news and emerging trends.

"While micro-loans are often associated with aiding entrepreneurs across the globe, the Virginia Small Business Financing Authority has established a program to help Virginia entrepreneurs right here in the Commonwealth.
The program is targeted towards existing Virginia businesses that will use the financing to either create new jobs or retain existing jobs. Companies must have been in operation for at least three years, as well as meet additional criteria in order to take advantage of the program.
These short-term loans will have a maximum maturity of one year with rates based off the Wall Street Journal Prime Rate. Funds can be used for financing working capital needs, fixed asset purchases, leasehold improvements or technology infrastructure.
