As the premier networking event
of the year, our awards banquet recognizes the best and brightest in
the region's technology sector. Each year, we honor our corporate
sponsors and the achievements in entrepreneurship, innovation, and
education. Our 9th annual Awards Night will be held on
May 11 at the Holiday Inn in Lynchburg. Our Master of Ceremonies and Keynote Speaker will be announced in April. Event registration is now open and can be done online.
We are also accepting nominations for our three award categories: Educator of the Year, Innovator of the Year, and Technology Company of the Year. You can now submit your nominations online. Nomination deadline is April 15.

Wired Wednesday - IT Risk Assessments
|

Risk Management has risen to new
levels of importance for all organizations, large and small. New laws
and changes to regulations affect all of us,
with IT risks. Attend this session to learn how to get your arms around
the risks from an IT perspective. Cathie Brown will be the speaker for
this session.
She is Principal of IT Governance Solutions, LLC, a consulting business
that focuses on overall governance activities within Information
Technology. Whether it's Data Breach, PCI, HIPAA, SOX, and the list
goes on. Most understand how financial risks impact business, but the
same isn't the case with IT risks.
Our Wired Wednesday luncheon is sponsored by nTelos and will be held on April 14 from Noon until 1:30PM at the Holiday Inn on Main Street, Lynchburg. The cost is $10 for Tech Council members and $15 for non-members. RSVP's are required. Wired Wednesdays are great for networking; come join us!

Governor Bob McDonnell Visits Region 2000
|
We were pleased to have Governor Bob McDonnell visit with board members and supporters of the Region 2000 Partnership recently. During his visit, Governor McDonnell received an overview of the Partnership and learned of the various economic develop assets the area has to offer. He also commented on his commitment to growing STEM education initiatives and how impressed he was with our area's Grow Your Own workforce development programs through CVCC, the Technology Council, Workforce Investment Board, and other area partners. VEX Robotics Competition at L.U.
|
Come on out to LU's Schilling Center on March 27 and cheer on your favorite area high school team.
More than 25 VEX Robotics teams will be competing on March 27 at Liberty
University. The VEX program gives
teams of high school students the opportunity to work together to overcome STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) challenges while creating and
programming projects of their own design in response to a given theme. If
you'd like to find out more information about the VEX

Jr. FIRST Lego Tourney - Volunteers Needed
|
 We're committed to growing our youth education programs and are pleased to announce the kick off for the first ever Junior FIRST Lego League season in Region 2000. Fourteen teams of kids ages 6-9 will meet over the coming weeks to research the "Smart Moves" challenge and design, build, and program an original model complete with moving parts using the We-Do Lego Education kit and software. Teams will gather on May 1 at TC Miller Elementary School for a Junior FIRST tournament where they will share the results of their research, display their "robots," and receive recognition for their achievements.
