 EVENTS

Event CoordinatorSandra Patterson 296-9281

This year the Lafayette Service Unit stepped up and girl scouts and families hosted several events including camporees, father(escort) daughter dance, ice cream social, daisy/brownie health faire, roller skating party, and antibullying program.  The Girl Scout Lafayette community should be proud of what they accomplished this year.

The following events occurred since the last leader's update.  Thank you to all of the Girl Scouts that made these events happen!

  • Daisy/Brownie Health Faire (May 12, 2009) by Troop 30814  Thank you!
  • Stanley Ice Cream Social - (May 5, 2009)  by girls in Troop 30632 and 32145

  • Did you know that Juliette Low, founder and role model for Girl Scouting in the United States, died in 1927 at age 66 from breast cancer.  Her legacy to the girls of America is to be responsible for themselves - physically, emotionally and professionally - by becoming the best person they can be.

For more information contact Sandra Patterson at pattersonburr@earthlink.net, or 296-9281.  (Individual girl scouts sign up.)

Go to the Events page for more information on any of these events!

Applications for hosting an event for 2009-2010 year were due April 1.  We are still taking applications so please consider an event - they are very fun and rewarding for the girls involved with the planing and execution!

It is with great pride that we inform our Lafayette membership of an additional Adult Recognition Award, the Appreciation Pin.  Please congratulate Linda Hargreaves.  The criteria for this award are:
  • Be a registered Girl Scout
  • Have significantly contributed to meeting one or more council goals in membership growth and retention, fund development, or increased community visibility in two or more geographic areas.
  • Actively recognize, understand, and practice the values of inclusive behavior.
This award is a small token of the Lafayette Girl Scout Service Unit's appreciation for service and program delivery that furthers its goals.  Linda's commitment goes above and beyond.  Thank you so much Linda Hargreaves for your dedication to Girl Scouts of Northern California.
COMMUNITY ANNOUNCEMENTS

Award Project
I am looking for a Girl Scout troop in Lafayette that would like to run a drive - possibly for their Silver Award.  The Los Trampas Program for developmentally disabled adults in Lafayette has a great need for new or gently used supplies (art supplies, board games, puzzles, books, music, outdoor game equipment, etc.).  For more information, call Joanne Kuller at 945-0206.

Self-Defense for Girls
Classes are designed especially for Girl Scout Troops to accommodate meeting times, allow for as many of the troop members as possible to attend, and potentially earn a badge. These classes are taught by 3rd Degree Black Belt and Self-Defense Professional, Sensei Karen Rutkowski, and focus on safety awareness, danger recognition and avoidance, conflict resolution, and simple self-defense techniques. The classes are age appropriate and are taught in an energetic and upbeat atmosphere. Please contact Karen at senseikaren@sbcglobal.net and/or 925-550-6757 for more information and to schedule a class.
