Leader Update
Lafayette Girl Scouts!

As you all know we are actively searching for enthusiastic people to join the Lafayette Coordinating Team (LCT).  Perhaps you are considering it?  Let me tell you the benefits!
  • Be a positive role model for your daughter, LCT members agree that parent participation increases their daughters interest!
  • Work with your daughter!  The product jobs especially allow your daughter, or troops, participation and the kids LOVE it!
  • Help shape the direction of Girl Scouts in Lafayette
  • Make new friends in Lafayette
If you are interested in serving on the LCT, we would love to hear from you. We are actively seeking volunteers for the following areas:
  • Products (Fall and Cookie)
  • School Organizers
  • Announcement Editor
  • Fundraising Chair

Contact either of us to learn more or view the list online!

Permission slips, permission slips...
Just a reminder of the importance of being prepared should an emergency occur.  Make sure you have copies of each girls' Health Form and Annual Permission Form at every Girl Scout meeting, field trip or event so you have emergency contact information available.  Accidents can and do happen!

Also be sure to forward field trip information to Alison.  Council requires that we know where your troop is going and when!  Trip and High Risk Activity Notification Approval forms should also be forwarded to Alison.

Older Girl Program: Anne Mitchell 284-2784

Stanley Ice Cream Social
We are still working on finding a group of girls to plan the Stanley Ice Cream Social. The event is generally held in May with invitations going to all 6-8th grade Cadettes and 5th grade troops. Recently we had 2 Senior scouts volunteer but they could use a few more girls to help plan the event.  Please contact Anne Mitchell, Older Girl Coordinator, at annemit@comcast.net, 284-2784 if you have girls that need leadership hours and are interested in helping to plan the event.

Destinations
Did someone in your troop apply and get accepted for a Destination? If so and if they are planning to attend please let the Service Unit know by contacting Anne Mitchell, Older Girl Coordinator, at annemit@comcast.net, 284-2784.

Additionally please pass on the following to your troops:

The Spring Older Girl Newsletter (and local newspapers) will highlight these girls and the Destinations to which they have been accepted. To be included the Scout must forward a paragraph about herself and the Destination along with a portrait photo. The articles may be edited by the Service Unit.  If the article and picture should not be included in the local newspapers, please have the family clearly state in the email or letter.

The Service Unit has a small budget to provide scholarships opportunities for Destination attendees. To apply for a Lafayette Service Unit scholarship the scout should send a letter to the Service Unit Coordinator, Alison Wash.  Be sure to include information on the Destination, cost and the desired amount.  To qualify for a scholarship, recipients must commit to either writing an article for the fall newsletter or speaking at a leader meeting.   Scholarships will be determined based on the number of girls applying.

  Dance 2009
Girl Scouts Host Escort-Daughter Dance

Girls Scouts of all ages and their adoring Escorts were transported to an evening of a New Orleans Style Mardi Gras celebration on February 6 at the Lafayette Community Center.  The evening began with each girl receiving tri-color beads, mask, and participation patch party favors.

The delightful scene unfolded with activities of dancing to a Disk Jockey, taking photos, decorating picture frames, and designing custom cupcakes.  The well attended event concluded with a traditional Mardi Gras parade.

Troop 31077, Stanley 7th Grade Cadets  earned their Silver Award Leadership Hours by planning and hosting the event.
