If you are age 50 and older, you may want to consider getting a shingles (Zosatavax)

vaccine.  

 

Zostavax is a vaccine that can help prevent shingles in adults age 50 and older.  Shingles is caused by the same virus that causes chickenpox.  Once you have had chickenpox, that virus stays in your body and can resurface as shingles.  Shingles manifests as a very painful, blistering rash and can also leave nerve pain that can last for weeks, months or even years.

 
At The Medicine Shoppe and Custom Compounding Center, Jeff Sparks RPh, has been trained and is certified to administer the Zostavax vaccine.  Zostavax has recently been limited in supply, but we currently received a small shipment.  Please call us if you have questions or may be interested in getting the vaccine.
The Zostavax vaccine is covered (may be fully or partially) under Medicare Part D plans.  We can submit your claim for the Zostavax and let you know what your cost would be. Also, if you are over the age of 60 and are privately insured and are not enrolled in any state or federal aid assistance program, ask us about a new patient rebate program.
