Tip of the month:

Balance Point

Balance Point

Former THBA camper and travel player Brian Armstrong, currently playing at Glendale College, is pictured here as a 12 year old demonstrating a good balance point.

A major component of a consistent delivery is a balance point. Pitchers should stress "lifting" front leg with a slight turn of the hips in an effort to transfer weight directly to back side. Eliminate"wasted" movement as the main goal is to get in a "strong" and balanced position. Slight hand movement is acceptable for the purposes of "rhythm." Pitcher should feel a "one thousand-one" pause at his balance point to eliminate a "rush" to the plate, thus preventing his body from getting too far in front of his arm.

Summer Camps a Huge Success
Summer 2011 one of the most successful in THBA history!

Once again, the THBA delivered another action-packed summer program to hundreds of local players. Capping off eleven years of operating camps and clinics at Roger Dean Stadium, summer 2011 proved to be one of the best ever for the THBA.

"Between the tremendous effort from the kids, participation from professional guests, dedication and passion from the staff and enhancements to the program, I'd have to say this was the best summer ever!" explained Director Brian Justine.

The staff Justine alluded to featured two high school head coaches (Frank Torre of Dwyer and Andy Mook of Jupiter), multiple former professional players and a staff of young & energetic instructors who participated in THBA programs as youngsters. Additionally, John C Cassidy provided an air-conditioned cool zone that was used for lunch and guest appearances. Marlins players Chris Volstad, Ricky Nolasco, John Baker and Clay Hensley headlined a star-studded list of professional guest appearances.

More additions and improvements are already in the works for the 2012 camp season. Thank you to all who participated! Registration is currently underway for THBA holiday camps being held over the winter break.

Among the many strengths of the THBA is the tremendous effort and dedication of the staff. From first round draft picks to current major league players and countless former and current local standout players, the THBA always boasts an extremely talented staff. Since 2000, that staff has included two area high school head coaches. Frank Torre, the head coach at WT Dwyer HS and Andy Mook, the recently named head coach at Jupiter HS have made and continue to make significant contributions to the development of thousands of youth players in our area.

"All I can say is that we are blessed to have Andy and Frank involved with the THBA. They are, without a doubt, two of the best high school coaches anywhere and their impact has been remarkable!" commented Brian Justine.

Torre's Panthers seemed poised to make a run at a state championship, led by a slue of talented college prospects, many of whom have come through the THBA. As for Mook's Warriors, they once again will garner attention as one of the country's most talented high school programs. As has been the case for the last decade, the Warriors have a deep and talented roster full of college prospects. The cross-town rivals will square off this spring in a game that will feature some of the areas most gifted athletes. Last seasons Jupiter/Dwyer match-up featured 22 former THBA campers and travel baseball players. Best of luck to both coaches and their respective programs on a successful 2012 season.
