Remember when...
| | Motte (left) assisted Brian Justine (right) with Heat Baseball prior to his ascent to the big leagues. |
Jason Motte, relief pitcher for the St. Louis Cardinals, assisted Brian Justine with Heat Travel Baseball and THBA camps? Motte, supplementing his minor league baseball income and preparing for life after baseball, was a struggling catcher in the Cardinals organization and was given an opportunity to try his luck on the mound in 2007. The experiment was a success to say the least as Motte has been a steady for Tony LaRussa out of the Cardinals bullpen. Thanks to Jason for his work over the years in helping the THBA prosper prior to his ascent to the big leagues. |

Nolasco and Volstad inspire THBA students
June is always an action-packed month at the THBA! Hundreds of local players gather at Roger Dean Stadium to kick off their summer vacation at baseball camp. June 2011 will go down as one of the most exciting ever since the THBA was established in 2000.
"Between the phenomenal job my staff has done and the work of our major league guests, things really could not have gone better!" commented founder and director Brian Justine.
The major league guests Justine alluded to are Florida Marlins starting pitchers Chris Volstad and Ricky Nolasco. Volstad, a Palm Beach Gardens native, helped Justine kick off the summer with his visit on June 7th while Nolasco appeared on June 25th. Both captivated an audience of over 100 players with positive words of encouragement while stressing the importance of passion, believing in yourself and perseverance.
"The fact that Chris is a local product who has made it all the way to the top proves to our young players that anything is possible and that one of them can do the same. With Ricky, his charisma and confidence completely captured the attention of everyone who was part of his visit. Both of them are exceptional role models" added Justine.
The THBA will be holding weekly summer camps through August 12th. Registration is still taking place and can be completed at tommyhutton.com.

Williams and Motter selected in MLB Amatuer Draft
Every June, Major League Baseball holds its amateur draft. While many high school and college players wait patiently to hear their name called, only the truly gifted athletes typically receive this honor. This year, two former THBA camp and travel baseball participants enjoyed hearing their names called. Tommy Williams of Palm Beach Gardens HS and Taylor Motter, out of Coastal Carolina by way of PBGHS, had their dream become reality.
"I'm not surprised at all. Both have worked extremely hard and have the tools needed to succeed at the pro level. Tommy's work ethic and dedication are second to none and Taylor is a terrific natural athlete! We're all so happy for them!" commented Brian Justine.
Motter was drafted in the 17th round by the Tampa Bay Devil Rays while Williams was drafted by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the 20th round. Congratulations to both!
