Greetings!
November is past and December is upon us. As we draw near to the end of another year, please keep The Bridge Birmingham, it's staff and it's congregation in your prayers. December also calls for a reminder that it is time to consider your year end gifts and contributions. Please remember that these gifts help The Bridge Birmingham maintain our budget throughout the coming year and ask God what He would have you to do.
Blessings, The Bridge Birmingham |

Congregational Meeting
Sunday, December 5, 2010 at 1:30 pm
As a body of believers it is important that we not only worship together, but that we also come together to examine how we can better engage in advancing the Kingdom of God. Unlike many traditional churches that have a congregational form of church goverment and thus have regular church buisiness meetings, The Bridge Birmingham follows a system of Pastoral leadership with a council of elders to give direction to our fellowship. We believe that this system of church goverment more closely matches the Biblical model, however, we also believe that it is essential to have the input and involvment of the entire congregation as we seek to pursue God's plan for our church.
By providing an open forum to discuss the future of The Bridge Birmingham, we hope to both establish accountability to body and to gather wisdom from those who have committed themselves to be a part of what we are doing. This meeting will provide an opportunity for financial accountability, as we discuss both our 2010 budget and what we expect for the 2011 budget. It will also provide an opportunity for spiritual accountability, as we discuss our vision and the means by which we will seek to fulfill it in the days ahead.
All members of The Bridge Birmingham are requested to attend this important meeting. Regular attendees and friends of The Bridge are also welcome. While this meeting was announced on several occassions, it was inadvertently omitted from last Sunday's announcements, so please help us to remind everyone. The 1:30 pm start time is intended to allow everyone to get lunch and return to the chuch. The specific room to be used for the meeting will be announced on Suncay. |
Word from Pastor Michael
Momentum
Don't let the cold weather fool you. December is heating up as we head deeper into the things of God and experience greater awakening on a daily basis. Now is not the time to sit back and relax as another year comes to an end, but rather it is a time to fasten your seat belt as things are preparing to accelerate. During Sunday morning prayer on the last Sunday of November, the Lord kept speaking the word "momentum" to me. When God speaks a single word to me without further explanation, I know it generally means that I need to dig a little deeper to see what God is saying, so I began to examine the concept of momentum.
Momentum can be defined generally in two ways. It is the capacity for progressive development, that is, the capacity to increase or develop at an ever growing pace. It is also defined as the speed or force of forward movement of an object. Both of these definitions seem relevant to what God is saying in this moment. As a corporate body, The Bridge Birmingham stands at the edge of something great, an awakening unlike any that the world has ever experienced. Yet, there is a cost to participate in this mighty move of God that we must consciously make the choice to pay. Momentum does not come into play until the object or concept is first set into motion. God, in His sovereign power, will provide the momentum, but we must be willing to carry the burden of setting our spirits into motion and join in with his plan. We truly have the capacity to increase our spiritual journey at an "ever growing pace"; however, the question really becomes "are we willing to pay the price to start the movement?" The spirit of God is the force behind the movement of this object we call "church" and if we are willing to step into the flow of the spirit, we will certainly be swept along in the current.
If we examine momentum more closely, then we find that it does not have to do solely with the motion of the object, but also with the power residing in the moving object. So often we have sought to experience the power of God for ourselves and some have even taken the position that if God would just "show up" and display his power, then we would step out and join Him. I have to believe that if we want to see the power of God, we must remember that it is residing in us, but only as we shift from stationary objects to moving objects. When we are sleeping we remain relatively still, but when we awaken, we begin to move. It is a time for awakening and movement in the body of Christ and more specifically in The Bridge Birmingham.
I used the illustration on Sunday morning of a large bolder poised at the top of a steep incline. While it may take a great deal of effort to get that boulder over the edge of the incline and started down the hill, once it has been set in motion it is far more difficult to stop than it ever was to get moving in the first place. We have a tendency to focus on the difficult in getting into motion and upon the opposition that we face instead of concentrating on the fact that one step in our own strength is all that it takes - after that it is the responsibility of the Holy Spirit to "keep the ball rolling".
While it may seem difficult, or perhaps even impossible, I challenge you to step into motion now. Henry Blackerby says that we don't always need to have God tell us what to do; rather we need to look around us, see what God is doing and join Him. This is a season to join God, to step out and move and let the momentum of His Spirit carry you headlong into this next "Great Awakening".

Eddie James will be joining us for Fire in the Night on Saturday evening at 7:00 pm. There will be no cost for this event, however, a love offering will be taken.
Eddie James, born in Phoenix, AZ, accepted Christ as his personal Lord and Savior at the age of 8. He entered into music ministry at the tender age of 9 and it is for this reason that Eddie recognizes the gifts of God inside of young people. God has placed a burden inside of Eddie James, to minister to those who are hurting and lost, with an extraordinary emphasis on youth and young adults. As a result of his efforts, God has established Eddie James as a leader of music and ministry in the nation and around the world.
Higher with The Phoenix Mass Choir was Eddie James his first recorded national album. Higher debuted at number 10 and went to number 3 on the national charts. Since then he has recorded ten other projects that have impacted our nation and our world. His group ColourBlind, a culturally diverse group of five young men, released an album called, The David Story. This album contains twelve chapters of the book of Psalms put to music. They also recorded a soundtrack to their musical production called, Break the Walls. Break the Walls is a musical production designed for high school and college youth that deals with the issues of drugs, violence, pre-marital sex, racism, and dysfunctional families. Eddie James along with ColourBlind has reached over 200,000 youth in America with this musical drama presentation. Through this message of hope, countless numbers of lives have been changed.
Eddie James' music ministry continues to broaden and climb to unbelievable heights. You can hear his music not only on projects that he's recorded himself, but also with leading Christian leaders such as Helen Baylor, Mississippi Mass Choir, Mark Condon from Turning Point Church, Christ Church in Nashville, TN, Karen Wheaton, and many more.
This artist and his ministry have toured throughout America, Europe, Mexico, and Japan. His ministry has placed him on the platform with leading artists, Christian leaders, and our nation's most influential churches, such as Bishop TD Jakes, Benny Hinn, Paula White, Tommy Barnett, Marilyn Hickey, 4 Him, Kirk Franklin, Plus One, Third Day, Judy Jacobs, P-Diddy, Stevie Wonder, Brian McKnight, Usher, Kelly Prince, and so many more.
Eddie James founded "Eddie James Ministries" in 1993. Under this umbrella he has established the following groups: The Phoenix Mass Choir, ColourBlind, Asaph, Tab, and Ultimate Call. He is also the founder of his label, Fresh Wine Records, Fresh Wine Publishing, Fresh Wine Productions, and Dream Life. Dream Life is a recovery program that rehabilitates troubled youth and college age students.
Being in full time ministry and traveling all over the world, Eddie James has been able to change many lives through his powerful praise and worship sets, dramas, seminars, workshops, as well as preaching the Gospel. He currently travels with approximately 40 young people all who share their love for music and ministry. Many of the team are a part of Dream Life. |
