Improvements Made To Via West Campus |
|
Painted, Poured and Purchased
Various renovations at Via West will make this year's summer sessions even more enjoyable for hundreds of children and adults, all thanks to the efforts of a number of donors and volunteers. Here is a preview of some of the biggest changes:
- The Sam Mazza Lodge has been converted to an exercise room with new workout equipment, new flooring and new interior paint. The improvements and the equipment (with more being purchased this summer) are made possible through generous grants from the Valley Foundation and the San Jose Sharks Foundation. The grants are funding two physical fitness and nutrition programs - one starting this summer and one this fall.
- The Association of General Contractors (AGC) donated hundreds of volunteer hours to build a paved switchback trail with railings leading up to the Sports Court. With the completed trail and the newly paved road, everyone will have easier access to an area where games and sports are played daily.

- Improvements have been made to the bathrooms in two of the sleeping lodges and the men's bathroom at the main lodge thanks to the generosity of the Martha Sanfilippo Foundation.
- New kitchen equipment, including one new cooking kettle, have been installed and another new kettle and oven are scheduled to be installed this summer. The equipment is being purchased through the generosity of the Rotary Club of San Jose, the Hugh Stuart Center Charitable Trust and Silicon Valley Realtors Charitable Foundation.
- In memory of former Via Board Member and President, Stuart Ganz, the Ganz Family donated funding for the conversion of the fire circle (a popular spot at Via West) next to the barbecue pit to gas operations and added a commemorative bench to the new trail.

Via West Summer Sessions Start | |
|
First of 10 Sessions Began June 12th
The Via West team just completed its annual summer staff training and leadership program. Leaders and counselors spent the past two weeks learning, training and preparing Via West for the hundreds of participants who will be attending this summer. Nurse interns, in addition to training with the counselors, received specialty training from our extraordinary group of experienced RN's. Vegetables and flowers have been planted in the garden and throughout the campus, buildings have been painted, renovations completed and new kitchen equipmen installed all in preparation of Via West's 56th summer season.
