10 Year Old Organizes Fund-raising Campaign To Send 20 Children to Via West Campus
| |
Brotherly Love
Gino loves his younger brother Nicky, a six-year-old special needs child who attends the Via West Campus (formerly Camp Costanoan) in the Santa Cruz Mountains. When Gino heard that some of Nicky's friends could no longer afford to attend Via West due to state budget cuts, he decided to do something about it. With entrepreneurial zeal Gino lined up contributors for matching funds and kicked off a campaign to raise enough money to send 20 children to Via West in the coming year. At the end of the fund-raising drive he plans to invite everyone to his house for a football barbecue to thank them. |
What a dayThe weather was perfect. The crowd was large and happy. The food was delicious and the petting zoo animals adorable. Everyone enjoyed the First Annual Fall Festival on Saturday, Oct. 9. The highlight of the day was the ceremony honoring those who have attended Via West for 25 years or more. Board member Dave Griffy and Via West Director Chris Pierce presented plaques to approximately 15 people who were 25-year veterans. Click here to see pictures from the Fall Festival! This event would not have been possible without the help of a number of individuals and companies. Special thanks to Miceli Financial Partners, Swank Farms, Imahara Produce, BiRite, Sysco, Trader Joe's, Whole Foods, JKL Construction Service Inc., Cupertino Rotary, Stevens Creek Volunteer Fire Department, Santa Clara County Fire Department, Scales of Justice Lions Club, Garrod Farms, BJ's Restaurant, and all the volunteers for their support of this wonderful event!
