Internet Protection for Your Holiday Gifts
The 2011 Gadget Guide
By Lisa Eldred

It has easy-grasp handles with rattles and a mirror, and it's made of durable rubber for easy cleanup of baby drool. Sounds like the average toddler toy, right? It's the Fisher Price Laugh and Learn Apptivity Case, and it's a protective case designed so that your baby can play... with your iPhone.
Whether you consider such a product a joke or sheer genius, it highlights the trend of immersing kids in technology at increasingly early ages. But tech toys for kids, as with high end devices for adults, are not the single-purpose devices of the last decade. Along with camera and game features, Internet access from mobile devices is increasing. It's been predicted that, by 2015, 80% of people accessing the Internet will do so from a mobile device. |
By Leigh Seger Step away from the eggnog...and the iPad - which may be difficult if you are like many families this Christmas. Adults and kids alike are having visions of a very "iChristmas," but is technology intruding on family traditions? The Apple iPad is the leading choice on the wishlists of kids ages 6-12, followed by the iPod Touch and the iPhone, according to a recent Nielsen survey. Other popular choices include gaming devices (Nintendo, Xbox, Playstation) and e-readers (Kindle, NOOK). It is stacking up to be a very wired Christmas for all ages. But in this season intended for togetherness, we often invest in products that steal away important family time and human interactions. Read more...

By Luke Gilkerson There are many untold benefits to social networking websites like Facebook. But what are the dangers a teen faces if they become too engrossed? Last month Case Western Reserve School of Medicine released a study entitled, "Hyper-texting and hyper-networking: A new health risk category for teens?" Overall, 20 schools participated in the study, and 4,257 questionnaires were received from students. This study defined "hyper-networking" as spending more than three hours per school day on online social networks. Using this definition, researchers concluded that 11.5% of students are hyper-networkers. Read more...

| 5 Ways Porn Warps Your Mind

Is there scientific research confirming porn is bad for you? Absolutely. Learn more by downloading a copy of Covenant Eyes newest e-book, Your Brain on Porn.
In this short book, author Luke Gilkerson weaves together the Bible and scientific research to show how pornography warps the mind in five significant ways:
- Watching Porn Decreases Our Sexual Satisfaction - It trains us to desire the variety and "designer sex" of porn more than the familiar sexuality of marriage.
- Watching Porn Disconnects Us from Real Relationships - It trains us to detach emotional involvement from sexual experience.
- Watching Porn Lowers Our View of Women - It trains us to see women as sexual commodities, not people created in God's image.
- Watching Porn Desensitizes Us to Cruelty - It numbs us to the seriousness of verbal and physical aggression.
- Watching Porn Makes Us Want to Watch More Porn - It taps into the neuro-circuitry of our brains, making us desire the same rush of sexual energy again and again.
The book finishes with a strong message of freedom, giving a Biblical vision for how to overcome the power and pervasiveness of pornography.
