Teens Hunted Online
New Film Highlights Danger of Internet Predators
 | | Trust, directed by David Schwimmer (inset), will be released in theaters on April 1. |
By Cris Clapp Logan, Communications Director, Enough Is Enough
If you're like me, you know David Schwimmer best for his role as the lovable paleontologist Ross in the hit NBC sitcom "Friends." Suffice it to say, I was a bit surprised when I was approached about a new film, directed by Schwimmer, called "Trust." The film is no comedy. Instead, "Trust" documents the raw social and emotional toll on 14-year-old Annie Cameron (Liana Liberato) as she is groomed and victimized by Charlie, whom she believes to be a 16-year-old boy.
Like many of the parents we work with at Enough Is Enough (EIE), Annie's parents, Will and Lynn Cameron (played by Clive Owen and Catherine Keener), find comfort in the fact that they have raised their children to be thoughtful and responsible-their kids are "good kids." With their alarm system on and their doors locked, the Camerons believe their children are safe. As a result, Annie's parents are shocked and devastated when they learn their daughter has been manipulated and raped by an online acquaintance. Read more...

| Internet Predators What You Need to Know to Protect Your Kids |
|

By Luke Gilkerson Headlines about Internet predators are fairly common today-so much so, we may have even grown deaf to them. "Man Charged with Solicitation of a Minor." "Sexual Predator Arrested in Undercover Operation." "Man Charged with Using Internet to Sexually Proposition 13-Year Old Girl." Predation is a widely reported but vastly misunderstood phenomenon. There are a variety of online predator-to-child scenarios parents need to be aware of. Knowing the truth could save your children from the dangers they face in the online world. Read more...

By Lisa Eldred What would you do if you discovered your 15-year-old daughter was in a relationship with a man 30 years her senior? Late one night in 2002, after investigating an extremely large cellphone bill, full of late-night phone calls to a family friend from their church, Doug and Lisa Cherry found themselves facing the unspeakable truth: this man had been sexually grooming their daughter Kalyn for nearly two years. Recently, Covenant Eyes blogger Luke Gilkerson interviewed Kalyn and Lisa about this experience. Read more...

| .XXX Domain Approved |
|
|
By Luke Gilkerson In an October editorial, Pure Minds Online addressed the proposed .XXX domain as a virtual "red light district." This new top-level domain (like .COM or .ORG), though it does not yet exist, already has over a quarter of a million domains pre-reserved for it. Finally after years of discussion, on March 18 the Board of ICANN decided to move forward with the proposal. Negotiations are underway, and the new domain will be available in a matter of months. To date, this issue has garnered more worldwide public comments than any other issue in ICANN's history. Ironically, both spokespersons from conservative religious groups and from the adult industry find themselves on the same side of the fence concerning this proposal. Read more...

| Big Changes for Accountability and Filtering! |

By Lisa Eldred February and March have been exciting months for Covenant Eyes. First, Covenant Eyes for Windows was updated. We made a few important adjustments, so download the new version for Windows if you haven't already. By now you should be familiar with our Web Content Rating System, which gives every web page you visit an age-based rating, like T for Teen or M for Mature. As part of this effort, we adjusted our ratings of Facebook, Twitter, and Netflix. These three sites are now rated at T by default, though individual pages on these sites may rate higher, depending on the content. Finally, we made some big changes to the Accountability Reports and the Filter settings. Read more...
