Lady Laker
&
El Awards

As we begin to enter the fall season, it's now time to start thinking about nominating area leaders for the El and Lady Laker Awards.

For the fifth year, the "Lady Laker Award" will be awarded to an outstanding individual in the area that has tirelessly worked towards   advancement and leadership development  of business and professional women in the area.

The "El Award,", which has a very similar        purpose to the Lady Laker Award, will also be awarded to an individual in the area.

Both awards will be presented during the Chamber Annual Dinner in November.  For more information on nominating an area leader, please contact the Chamber at 893-4585.

Civil War Living History Event
at Hilt's Landing in Whitehall
September 11 & 12, 2010Civil War 1

There will be company drill demonstrations, a tactical battle demonstration, visits to Civil War and civilian camps, live music and workshops with the Dodworth Saxhorn Band, an Ecumenical service and more at a Civil War Living History Event at Hilt's Landing onSeptember 11 and 12.

The Lakeshore Museum Center event is co-sponsored by Company F of the Third Michigan Infantry, which is dedicated to educate the general public and preserve all aspects of Civil War life.  It will be a fun family event and the first of many special events to be held at the site just off Durham Road in Whitehall.

Visitors will meet members of Company F and have an opportunity to tour the camps of the north and south, learning what life was like in those camps as well as in a civilian camp.  The Company will conduct a drill demonstration with marching and use of Civil War musketry.  Curators from the Muskegon's  Education Department will present a Civil War activity for children.  On Sunday, an Ecumenical service will be held based on revival services that were held for both armies during the war.

Music will be performed on Saturday by the Dodworth Saxhorn Band, a recreation of one of  America's first all-brass bands.  The ensemble of up to 17 members dresses the part, performs music from that period on original instruments and uses drama, poetry, dance, and audience participation to help bring America's musical past to life. Workshops will be offered along with a formal concert.

Admission to the Civil War Reenactment will be $5 for adults, $2 for ages 5-18 and free admission for   children under 5.  A family pass will be available for $12.  Food and    beverages will be available for purchase on site.  The event will take place on Saturday, September 11 from 10am to 6pm and Sunday, September 12 from 10am to 4pm.
