Brimley Bay AIM Tournament Review
The Brimley Bay Casino and AIM tournament was amazing. It was a well run event with a huge pay out, 31 boats and winner got $40,000, now I like those odds! There were many weather changes from frost in the morning to 88 in a few days to 40 mph wind during the practice period. My pre-fishing areas were immense and varied from shallow rivers with submerged trees, muddy bays 3 feet deep, cold Lake Superior and the St. Mary's River. I made a 50 mile run through the locks on day 1 to find the bay too muddy and cold for the fish to bite after the cold front so I ended up with a skunk. Day 2 I caught enough fish to make the cut for the final day and caught enough fish to finish 12th for $1836. The Brimley Bay Casino was a major sponsor for this event and really put on a good show. They paid in cash and the winner got a platter with $40,000 cash on it. The money was wet from his drooling!
The fishing clinic drew over 300 kids; this is great for the kids because fishing makes better people than video games.
I got 12th and my plate of cash was too small to show compared to Brett King's platter! More details at www.aimfishing.com.

Crankbait Contest
The Brimley Crankbait contest was easily won by the Salmo Hornet 4F. Many anglers figured this out last year and were stocked up for the 2011 tournament. I have a few years of using the Hornet without my competition understanding the value of this lure. It is short and fat like a bass lure but the walleyes love it as much as bass do. Second place was the Salmo Sting. I was using it for bigger fish and the winner (Brett King) used it to blow away the field and win $40,000 cash. Both lures worked well at 1.5 mph in this tournament. 3rd place was an old favorite the Shad Rap.
