AIM Winneconne Tournament Review

This is my opinion and I stand by it until I change my mind.

I hate early spring tournaments. I am usually in the process of rigging my new boat and the first test is at the tournament prefishing. My boat needs time to get everything working with 3 HDS models, 2 StructureScan units, 2 computers, 2 trolling motors, TR-1 AutoPilot on the Mercury kicker, and that is just part of the rigging!

The weather usually sucks in April. I pre-fished in sleet all day and a snow storm cancelled the first day of the tournament.

The fish are always moving and haven't set up homes yet. I had some good female walleyes targeted and I never caught one during the tournament.

That is enough excuses; I actually had a great time since I was fishing after a long winter. I finished poorly at 31st.

The crankbait contest had no results since I didn't catch any fish on crankbaits. I caught them on slip bobbers or jigs and minnows.

I leave for the next tournament soon. AIM Brimley

I have been running it for a  month and I really like programming the short cut keys for the PAGES choices.

Big Fish

Determining size of fish is difficult with sonar. This image shows big fish I was targeting this day and this is what I would see on the sonar. Notice the DownScan and the traditional sonar show a thick band and this is the best way to tell size.

Next, what is the target coming from the surface clutter to 15 feet. That is one of the trophy fish being released; the fish is swimming away from the cone so it disappears at 15 feet. The straight line is the fish and the air bubbles are easily seen.

The fish were 22-30 inch walleyes that gave my friend and Doc the best fishing day we have had together.

Level Transducers

Leveling the StructureScan transducer is important for side scan. Notice in this image it is brighter on the right side but doesn't see as far to the right side.

 leveling transducers

The transducer is not level so the right transducer crystal is shooting more downward than the left side. This is an easy fix by adjusting the right side a little higher. Remember that the boat isn't the level when you add two 250lb anglers on one side and you leveled the transducer for just one person.

Coming soon will be  a new Boat Control DVD for fishing and a new Bobber DVD Kit.
They should be released in June.
