A Menu of Fundraising Ideas for the Board
Review this list with Board volunteers and ask them to choose an opportunity that works for them.
"Annual" Campaign, Direct Mail Campaign
- Provide testimonials for fundraising letter.
- Sign fundraising letters. Hold a Signing Event and have Board members write notes on the letters, attach sticky-notes, etc. These are the letters that will get read!
- Write personal appeal letters to people they know.
- Hold a Non-Event. Board members send 'invitations' personally and have the response envelope returned to them. This boosts responses exponentially.
- Make an Internet Giving Page.
- Make thank you calls to donors. Select the top % of donors and hold a Board Thank You event, calling and thanking donors personally.
- Make fundraising calls to donors and prospects.
- Host an event at your home or office. Send invitations, pay for the event, give people an opportunity to donate.
- Underwrite the cost of the campaign. Pay for the printing, postage, etc.
Major Gifts Campaign
- Open doors for other Board members and staff.
- Make personal gift and ask others to match it.
- Accompany staff on calls.
Underwriting, Sponsorships, In-kind, Corporate Grants
- Research your own company's giving programs.
- Research other company's giving programs.
- Write proposals and ask for sponsorships, underwriting.
- Solicit in-kind contributions of goods and services.
Special Event
- Plan it! Organize it! Serve on the committee!
- Sell tickets. Buy tickets.
- Solicit auction items and other requirements.
- Solicit underwriting and sponsorships.
Planned Giving
- Make personal planned gift.
- Serve on Planned Giving Committee, solicit planned gifts.
