Parenting Challenge:
Set a little money aside to put in the Salvation Army's red kettle...be ready to hand it to your teen or pre-teen next time you're walking into Wal-mart, Krogers or Sam's together. It will raise their awareness, set a good example and remind them there are families in need. Be sure to tell them how proud you are of them if they pull out their own money! |

Greetings!
We're meeting the challenge!
We have an anonymous donor who is willing to match any donations this month up to $10,000.00 and our wonderful supporters are responding! Six donations have been made totaling $1,125.00! A big thank you to:
Devan Gunderson, Dawn Arnold, Joe McWilliams, Dale Wilson, Fisher & Hinnant Prosthetic & Orthotic Inc., and Bobbi Dewey
You are our heros! And we're still hoping to reach our goal so please don't forget about us as 2010 winds down, and you make your year-end donations. You may donate on-line, or mail a check to: Operation: PARENT, 13029 Middletown Industrial Boulevard, Louisville KY 40223. We are a 501(C)3 non-profit organization so your donation should be tax deductible!
LIGHTS, CAMERA, ACTION...
One of our major goals for 2011 is to begin producing our own videos to ensure the information we share with parents is up-to-date and state-of-the-art. This is an expensive endeavor (approximately $10,000.00 for 30 minutes of video) but we are committed to doing it right! We're anxious to get started but need to raise the money first. In the meantime we're trying hard to cover overhead expenses, and print our new Parent Handbooks. All worth the effort...good things are coming in 2011!
A heartfelt thank you from all of us here at Operation: PARENT!

Parenting Tip
Given the ages of my children, this is going to sound silly, but I wanted to throw it out there in case it could work for you. My kids are now ages 15 to 26 so last year marked my 25th year for wrapping presents, stuffing stockings and I was worn out by Christmas Eve. For the first time in Schumm history, around 11:00pm, I had my kids help carry the presents down and place them around the tree, and also asked them to help me fill the stockings. They of course gave me a hard time about it saying "Mom, I can't believe you're letting us do this...Santa always does this every year!" (I guess I should have told them sooner!) Anyway, in an effort to console them, I told them their father would read "The Night Before Christmas" if they all sat quiety. I was just kidding at the time since they're a litte old to have a story read to them. Much to my amazement, my husband picked up the book and started to read it (holding it up occasionally so they could see the pictures...it was hilarious!) and all five kids, ages 25, 24, 19, 17 and 15 sat and listened to their dad read every single page. I got to sit back and look at there beautiful faces...and think about how fast they've grown up. It was awesome. It was Christmas. It was so simple but something we'll be doing again this Christmas Eve. I was excited to see it's never too late to start a new tradition.
May God bless you and your family this Christmas and keep us all together in the new year. | | |
