Camp Stuy

A big thank you to all who participated in a successful Camp Stuy orientation that was held on August 31 and September 1.
Staff, parents and students talked about Stuyvesant's challenges and opportunities to the new members of our community.

Some tips:  talk to your child about how they will organize their work..doing some work each night rather than leaving it to the last minute; encourage students to connect socially--for example by joining an activity;  listen to your child and respect their growing independence--encourage them to talk to their teachers or guidance counselor directly. Then you can reach out to school staff and the Parent Association.

And don't forget to support our Stuyvesant students with whatever gifts you can give--more about this at our PA meeting on September 21.

REMINDERS

Do not call your child on their cell phone while they are at school!

Priincipal Stanley Teitel and Assistant Principal Ms.Randi Damasek have asked us to remind you that the Chancellor's regulations strictly prohibit students from having cell phones in their possession in the school building.  Remind your child that, if they have a cell phone in the building, it must be kept out of sight and switched OFF (not just on "vibrate").  If you have a truly urgent message for your child, call the school office at 212-312-4800; school staff have the students' schedules and can locate a student if necessary.  Do not call your child's cell phone -- your call might get the student in trouble and lead to the confiscation of their cell phone.

What to do if your child is absent:

If students are absent, upon return to school they should bring a signed note or school absence form from you, which they must then have each classroom teacher sign. The note/form is then brought to the Attendance Office (room 203) by the student. This form is in the parent handbook and is also available at www.stuy.edu . Just click on  Links  and then scroll down to find the form.
