Greetings!
This week we have a special message from co-presidents Larry Wood and Alex Cai:
Greetings! The next two weeks promise to be a busy period for Stuyvesant parents. We would like to thank all our Parent Association (PA) volunteers who will be working on several events and we encourage your active participation. Please take the time to visit the PA website for several informational updates and links referenced below; in addition, there is more detail on many of these events in this email message.
Report cards will be distributed on Tuesday, March 16, before the Parent/Teacher conferences scheduled for Thursday evening (5:30-8pm) and Friday afternoon (1-3pm). The PA will host a faculty reception dinner for all teachers and administrators on Thursday afternoon.
The Seventh Annual Lunar Gala Dinner on Friday March 19, 5:30pm-10pm will be one of the largest social events for the PA this year; don't miss your chance to get a ticket or table! For all needed information and new links to map, travel directions and ideas for raffle & on-line auction donations: http://stuy-pa.org/home/content/view/184/72/
We urge you to read the Co-Presidents letter in the new March PA Bulletin now on the website for good news on the school and PA budgets to be discussed at our March 23 PA meeting. Both NYS and NYC mid-year budget cuts were averted! Now we must focus on advocacy against future funding cuts in the 2010-2011 budgets. Please see the new link: "SPEAK OUT AGAINST BUDGET CUTS TO STUYVESANT" at www.stuy-pa.org for details and tools to contact our NYS and NYC elected officials.
Another helpful new link on the PA website will send you to the newly released Department of Education 2010-2011 school calendar. Check it out!
Happy Spring! | |
Spring Faculty Reception
The Spring Faculty Reception is on March 18th. Thanks to great parent volunteer response, we have already covered both shifts, but we need more parents to contribute desserts. To sign up, please contact Jenny Cho at: jennycho_26@hotmail.com .
If you can send in a dessert for the reception, please have your students bring them on the day of the reception (March 18th) to the PA room (Room 271).
This Friday March 19!
Seventh Annual Lunar New Year Dinner Gala
See details in the Lunar Feast update below.
Tuesday March 23 meet 'n' greet at 6:30, meeting at 7:00
For our next PA meeting on Tuesday, March 23, members of our School Leadership Team (SLT) and the Academic Committee will report and take questions on the school's vacation and homework policies; they will also address concerns about "in-class" vs "departmental" finals, and homework during in-class finals week. English Assistant Principal Eric Grossman will be joining us for our discussion of academic issues.
In addition, we have invited students from Sing! to deliver an encore performance of some of their fabulous dance routines.
We will also form a Nominations Committee for forthcoming PA and SLT elections scheduled for May and June.

Lunar Feast and Auction Updates
Location: The 7th annual Lunar New Year Dinner will be held this coming Friday, March 19 at 6pm at the 88 Palace Restaurant (formerly Triple 8 restaurant; Chinese name: Yi Dong Restaurant) at 88 East Broadway, 2nd Floor, NY, NY 10002, 212-941-8886. (Note: the restaurant is located in Chinatown, right underneath the Manhattan Bridge on East Broadway; a map with directions is posted on the PA website).
Here's a great idea! Why not buy tables at the Lunar Feast with other parents from your child's team or other after-school activity? Thanks go to the Debate Team parents, who have already purchased two tables as a group -- talk to your kids' friends' parents and sign up!
Donate Lunar Feast Auction Items Online -- DEADLINE EXTENDED
As you have probably already read in previous email postings, the PA has created a first-ever Stuyvesant High School Online Auction and Donation Website to complement the Lunar Feast fundraising effort.
There's still time to give a little and get a lot in return!!! We have extended the online auction by 2 weeks. Please show your support by going to the online to auction site: www.biddingforgood.com/stuy-pa and click on the " Donate Items" button to contribute to our catalog, or by clicking on " Donate Cash".
The extended bidding dates are March 28 6pm - April 11th at 6pm.
Whether you have 1 item or 100 to contribute, your participation is an invaluable part of our fund-raising efforts for the school. By donating an item or service directly online, you'll be helping to raise money for our school, and you'll receive a mention on our site that can link back to your own web page.
We strongly encourage everyone to donate through the website. However, if that is not possible, donations can be dropped off at the office of Harvey Blumm, the wonderful Stuyvesant Parent Coordinator (Room 273 at Stuyvesant) or at the offices of Miriam Chan at 221 Canal Street, Room 303. A donation form must accompany all items dropped off. All Lunar Dinner Forms can be found at the Stuy PA website at: www.stuy-pa.org.
