An average of 32 donations is needed each day to ensure an adequate supply of blood for patient needs. Donors must sign up at www.ruralmetrocolorado.com, in the Newsroom section. For safety reasons, the Children's Hospital Colorado Blood Donor Center asks that donors consider the following guidelines, when signing up to donate.
Please Do Not Donate, if:
* You currently have or are getting over a cold.
* You weigh less than 110 pounds.
* You are less than 17-years-old (17-year-old donors must have a consent form signed.)
* You have had a tattoo or piercing in the past 12 months.
* You have traveled outside of the U.S. in a malaria risk area in the last 12 months.
* You are currently taking an antibiotic or any other medications for an infection.
* Please ask us regarding diseases and medications.
When Donating, Remember to:
* Eat the morning of your donation.
* Stay well-hydrated.
* Bring photo ID.
The blood donated to Children's Hospital Colorado will directly benefit the kids at the hospital. "Our mission and purpose is to take care of the sick and injured," says Rural/Metro-Pridemark PIO, Courtney Morehouse. "Hosting a blood drive is one of the many ways we can help. At the end of the day, we want them be able to be kids and enjoy their childhood. If giving blood helps them get healthy and return home, we're all for it," says Morehouse.
