Become a Better Neighbor

Hi everyone, I am David Trig.  I enjoy meeting people and connecting them to each other for a good cause. One day, I walked across the street to meet my neighbors, they were kind, but a bit unsure of why I was there. Another day, days after our family had moved to Colorado, our next door neighbor brought us brownies. But then the next week, someone called the City because "our grass was over 10 inches".

WeLoveArvada2My dream is that we would become better neighbors. That we would bring brownies to new people moving in or to those moving out, and that when problems occur, instead of calling the City (if at all possible), we can talk to each other.

But there are many obstacles to this. Who has the time? And even if we had the time, where do I start? For younger generations, these questions are often replaced with, "no one seems to care", or "I don't feel supported in my dreams and efforts to make a difference".

As citizens, we have a great opportunity to help each other. I love it when my neighbor John comes over and helps me change the air filter on my '97 VW Jetta with 195,000 miles. It's like having Auto Zone in my own backyard! Some love to spend time with the elderly, help them with medical needs, or just come over and talk. Others love sharing their tomatoes from their garden or walk their dogs with friends.

WeLoveArvada3And what if we came together to help others, to fix bikes for children or single moms, to start soccer leagues for low income schools, to provide shoes for needy children by zip codes. What if during times of stress or even tragedy, we were the ones to get the phone call late at night.

That's what we want to do. Our vision at We Love Arvada is to help make these connections possible by bringing neighbors, community organizations, schools and local businesses together to create a deeper sense of community, hospitality and responsibility in the Denver Metro/Arvada area.

WeLoveArvada4So on Sunday, Oct 31st, neighbors in Arvada made Soup on Halloween. We invited neighbors to make their favorite home made recipes and invite people into their homes or just give soup at the door, for the sake of becoming better neighbors.

The strength of our efforts is each of you, not as individuals, but as people coming together towards a greater good.

Join the movement!
