In the News
While we have been spinning in the whirlwinds of health care reform, the summer rhetoric of death panels remains fresh in our minds.  To learn the truth about medical care options nearing life's end, attend the free seminar Demystifying Hospice and Palliative Care.

Life Quality Institute: Advancing Palliative CareMarch 31st marked the fifth anniversary of Terri Schiavo's death.  While the prolonged court battles peaked the country's interest in advance directives, the majority of Americans still have not completed documents outlining their health care wishes.  Confusion reigns. Should you fill out the MOST? Do you need an MDPOA? What is an advance directive? What are the differences?

At minimum, having the conversation is critical to controlling care at life's end.  The upcoming conference Can We Talk? Conversations for Navigating our End-of-Life Journey will provide insight into talking with your family, friends and doctor.

Life Quality Institute adopts new palliative care definition!
Colorado recently adopted a definition of palliative care that is consistent with the definition used by the World Health Organization.  "Palliative care improves the quality of life of patients and their families with advance illness or life-threatening injury. Life Quality Institute: Advancing Palliative CareOver the past year, I have grown weary of the healthcare debate. I am sure you feel my pain regardless which side of the discussion you support. It has been a long, frustrating, and complicated discussion. I don't care to rehash the arguments for and against the various bills under consideration. Nor do I wish to explore the ethical principles at play in the debate. Countless discussions can be found on a myriad of websites related to those topics.
