It's True! Working Can Make You Sick! By Dr. Maya Pande, DC

There was a special report in a recent issue of Maclean's magazine (May 17, 2010). It was titled "Working Ourselves Sick - An exclusive survey of 26 000 reveals the most overlooked health problem in Canada"
The article reports on the Q-GAP survey (measuring Gaps in Quality of Life) that was developed by ScientaHealth to help show the negative impact on one's Quality of Life caused by symptoms of disease or premature aging. In essence, the test helps isolate the areas that need improvement so that one can "close the Q-GAP".
Based on questions about general health and symptoms, the test comes up with a Q-GAP score from 0 to 15 (the higher the score, the more intense and frequent the symptom).

Top 4 Back to School Tips for Healthy, Happy Kids and Parents by Joy Burlton HD, DHMHS |

1. Get into a routine and talk about it Change is easiest when kids (and adults) know what to expect and knowing what time you have to go to bed, wake up, do homework etc. makes getting into the swing of things a lot easier. Let your child have some input into what activities they would like to do this year and be sure to not over-program. For some children, adapting to change may result in symptoms of anxiety that show up in the body such as headaches or tummy aches. Try to talk to your child about how they are feeling, but if their stress has gone to their bodies, rescue remedy or a visit to the homeopath might be in order.
2. Get lots and lots of sleep Children generally require more sleep than adults, but the actual amount needed varies wildly between kids. Sleep gives your body a chance to recharge and regenerate both on a physical and emotional level. If your child cannot sleep due to bladder problems, bad dreams or difficulty falling or staying asleep this, may affect their overall mood and physical health not to mention yours. To get your child to sleep on time make sure they're aware of their bedtime and give them plenty of wind down time. A bath and a story go a long way to a good night sleep. If they're all of a sudden having problems falling or staying a sleep, this may be a sign of stress. If they have always been light sleepers their may be natural remedies to help address the underlying cause of their sleeplessness.

, now that the whirlwind of summer fun in the sun is winding down, it's wise to take some time to evaluate our bodies and if our lifestyle is giving us optimal wellness. Did all the activities packed into the summer months take a toll on our health? Maybe you fought through a nagging pain so you wouldn't have to miss that volleyball game or tennis match. Maybe your sleep and eating patterns changed from the onslaught of BBQs, dinner parties, and late nights. Whatever the case may be, with all the good that came from the summer months, there may have also been some issues that were overlooked or put to the side. It's a good idea to make sure you're getting your regular Chiropractic adjustments or seeking other therapies for your issues.
