Welcome CJ Paterson and Dana Zangari
picture of CJ and Dana Catherine Janice (CJ) Paterson (left), is a Registered Massage Therapist who graduated from Algonquin College in Ottawa, receiving her Massage Diploma in 2006. Since graduating, she has taken a Lymphatic Drainage course in Victoria BC, and is currently working towards a BSc in Human Science. She practices relaxation, deep tissue, sports and rehabilitation massage. The Lymphatic Drainage helps lymphoedema clients, but can also be used post surgery, for wisdom teeth removal, or during a detox to flush your body.

CJ is currently booking clients on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.

Dana Zangari (far right), BA, RHN, RhA is a Registered Holistic Allergist and comes to us from D Centre for Wellness.  With the help of Biofeedback Analysis to determine potential intolerances, Dana employs a method called BioEnergetic Intolerance Elimination (BIE), a new and proven natural remedy for allergy relief, including anaphylaxis. She has been in practice for the past three years.

Dana is seeing patients Monday to Thursday, 9-5 and Friday and Saturday from 9-1.

You can talk to Sheila or Jennifer to book appointments with either of our new practitioners at 416-486-1234.

Pillow Talk by Dr. Maya Pande, DC
"What kind of pillow should I use?"

It's a common question that I hear from my patients. The answer depends on how you sleep. The proper pillow for your sleep position can prevent neck pain and even improve the quality of your rest.

Do you sleep on your side or on your back?

If you're a side sleeper, the height of the pillow is important. If the pillow is too flat, your head will be tilted down and if it's too fluffy, it will be tilted up. Either can make you wake up with a kink in your neck. The perfect pillow will be thick enough to allow your head to be aligned with the rest of your body, without inclining it at an angle, like your head is when you are standing up.

If you mostly sleep on your back, then you want to make sure to provide support for your neck and the best pillow for that is a contour one. It will cradle the curvature of your spine so that your head is aligned with the rest of your body. When your neck is not supported, your muscles will continue to work throughout the night instead of resting and you may wake up feeling tired and achy. The contour pillows have a thin side and a thick side. When sleeping on your back, it may be more effective to use the thick side however, if you have a slighter body frame, the thinner side may be the best for you.

You'll notice that I haven't talked about stomach sleepers yet. From a chiropractic perspective, this is the least desirable way to sleep because it forces you to turn your head to one side or the other for a long period of time. This can cause neck pain, headaches and tense neck muscles. That said the best pillow for sleeping on your stomach, is actually no pillow at all! If you must have one, then get the flattest pillow you can find. This will prevent your neck from being propped up and turned at the same time.

If after changing your pillow you find that you still wake up with an achy neck, there may be something else contributing to the problem. Call or email me to see if chiropractic can help you!
Welcome Lev Bornfreund and Cole Stevenson
Aviva Allen, our Nutritionist, and her husband Marcus Bornfreund welcomed baby Lev into the world on December 27, 2008.  Lev weighed in at 7 lbs 15 oz.  Lev has already been to the office for a few visits!

Both Aviva and Beth are continuing to see patients on a reduced schedule.  Please call our office if you would like an appointment with either Aviva or Beth.  You might even get to meet their new little additions!

Spring is a great time to re-check your own personal wellness, .  We all want to be able to enjoy the fine weather in good health. Call our office and make the first step in managing your personal wellness and put that 'spring' back into your step.
