The Rt. Rev. Roger J. White, X Bishop of Milwaukee (retired), died peacefully Monday night at Froedert Memorial Hospital with family at his side.  Bishop White was hospitalized August 9^th for treatment of a ruptured brain aneurysm.  He was 71 years old.

The funeral service will be held at 7pm on Thursday, September 6^th at All Saints' Cathedral (818 East Juneau Avenue, Milwaukee).  Visitation will be held from 4-7pm in the Cathedral library.  Interment in the Cathedral columbarium will follow the funeral service. Bishop Miller will preside at the service.

Clergy are invited to vest and process; cassock and surplice, white stole. Clergy are asked to vest at Nicholson House (diocesan office). 

Speaking of his predecesor, Bishop Miller said "Roger served the Diocese of Milwaukee at a critical time in the life of the Episcopal Church.  His focus on the ministry of all the baptized and the Church's mission to know, love, and serve Jesus in the world, were manifested by the ministries begun during his tenure as bishop.  We give thanks for his life and ministry, and hold his wife Pru, and their family, in our prayers."

Gail Archer is an international concert organist, recording artist, choral conductor and lecturer.  Ms. Archer is college organist at Vassar College, and director of the music program at Barnard College, Columbia University where she conducts the Barnard-Columbia Chorus.  She serves as director of the artist and young organ artist recitals at historic Central Synagogue, New York City.  This program will feature works of Bach, Buxtehude, Schumann, Sweelink, and Mendelssohn-Hensel.

Discover a new musical world! During the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, the musical dialogue between the Old and the New Worlds produced extraordinary results. This fascinating blend of European polyphony and Latin American traditional music created a unique style.  Gems from this spectacular musical era will be performed on instruments that were common at the time:  flutes and recorders, baroque guitar, violoncello and various percussion instruments. 

These concerts are fund raising events for the music department of St. Matthias.  A post concert reception will be included with your admission.

What do members of the Order of the Daughters of the King do?

Members are called to 'be'- not to 'do'. That might sound funny, but often women, like Martha in the Bible, get caught up in all the busy work of the church and their communities. When Martha complained about Mary's stillness, Jesus told her that he wasn't going to take away Mary's ability to find time to simply 'be' in His presence.  

Whether or not you become a member of the order, participating in the Study of the Order will help you to balance your larger commitments to the church and world with your personal commitment to your relationship with God through Jesus Christ.

The Diocese of Milwaukee's 165th Annual Convention takes place in Madison this year on October 12-13 at the Madison Marriott West Hotel. The theme of thtis year's convention, "Grace upon Grace" builds on last year's "Many gifts, one spirit" theme. 

In addition to clergy and elected lay deputies, all members of the diocese are welcome to attend and especially are encouraged to take part in Friday's session which offers workshops, worship, and time for fellowship at the Convention banquet. The exhibit area, which includes vendors, will be open for visitors and deputies to peruse on both Friday and Saturday.

Ask that you kindly collect the sundries (individually/small sized containers of shampoo, soap, lotion, toothpaste, hygiene items, etc.)that you have gathered as you have travelled and  

bring them to Diocesan Convention at the

Madison Marriott West Hotel on October 12 and 13. 

Sundries will be distributed to the homeless at The Gathering as well as through Central City food pantry.

The Madison-area Julian Gathering has been meeting each month for four and a half years; a number of people have come to see what we do and some have become 'regulars.'  We welcome everyone who is interested in learning more about contemplative spirituality in the Christian tradition.  

We meet monthly for contemplative prayer, after which we discuss a reading from Julian of Norwich, a 14th Century English mystic who has been called "a theologian for our time."  These gatherings are supported by the Order of Julian of Norwich, a contemplative monastic order in the Episcopal Church.  We meet the second Wednesday of each month at 7:15 PM at St. Dunstan's Episcopal Church, 6205 University Ave., Madison, WI.  We end promptly at 9 PM.  We would love to have you join us.  If you have questions, call Susan Fiore, AOJN at (608) 845-2413 or e-mail at slfiore@mac.com.
