St. Francis, Menomonee Falls, has installed a weather-proof Little Free Library and reading bench in front of the church as an outreach to the community. Registration for Diocesan Church Development Institute (DCDI) 2012-2013
As I watch the 2012 summer Olympics there is a lot of talk about team and the importance of team in success. The women's coach on the swimming team gave each athlete a tag with one side indicating the London 2012 Olympics and on the flip side their individual event.
This is not that different from Diocesan Church Development Institute (DCDI). We train parish teams in leadership development. We are all working toward bringing people to know God through Jesus, yet we have our own individual and community ways of doing that. Our goal is to help people ask questions, look at things in new ways and to be intentional in their planning. If you would like to be a part of our next training cycle the time is now to sign up. We have 20 seats available.
This next cycle will be the Friday - Saturday format but cycle 2 will be a Saturday - Sunday format. This new format gives us the opportunity to invite people who cannot take a Friday off and lets us experience Morning Prayer not only at DCDI but also at our home parishes if we choose. We will have training opportunities this coming year on leading Morning Prayer.
- Our DCDI dates are: Cycle 1 begins on Nov. 1- 2, 2012; Feb. 8 - 9; April 12 - 13; June 7 - 8.
- Cycle 2 begins on November 16 - 17, 2013; Feb. 8 - 9; April 5 - 6; May 17 - 18, 2014.
Another new opportunity will be for all those we have graduated from Diocesan CDI to meet on Saturdays from 10 until 2 to share with one another what they been working on and to practice as well as learn new theories, methods and skills. We will meet at Holy Wisdom Monastery in Madison while DCDI is in session and preregistration will be required.
To register for our next Cycle:
Email Peggy Bean at bean@diomil.org with the following information: Name, contact information, who you will be attending with you or who has attended from your congregation, and in 25 words or less why you want to participate in this training and what you hope to learn.

Milwaukee Deputation
to General Convention Tells All!
Part II
Report from the Deputation of the Diocese of Milwaukee to the 77th General Convention of the Episcopal Church
"...the Christians all became missionaries. Wherever they were scattered, they preached the message about Jesus. ."
Acts 8, The Message
Restructure
If one theme ran through this gathering, it was that this General Convention felt that God was calling his church to look at how it ministers to, and with, God's people differently. General Convention approved the creation of a special task force to begin to re-imagine the workings of the Episcopal Church to prepare it for mission in the 21st. Resolution C095 was adopted on a unanimous voice vote among the more than 800 lay and clergy deputies. This unanimous voice vote prompted both deputies and those in the gallery to break into sustained applause. The vote came after a period of discussion and a time of solemn prayer.
Yes, it's true that attendance is low - compared to 30 years ago. But the Episcopal Church is not alone in this reality. And yet, there is a hunger in the world for the kind of love and grace that comes only from God. There is a growing conversation in the greater Church about how and what we, as Episcopalians, have to offer the world. One of our hallmarks is mission and outreach. This conversation is critical, not only on the larger landscape of the Church, it is also the critical question for our diocese and for our own congregations.
General Convention 2012 passed Resolution C095 which calls for development of a 24-member task force charged with presenting a plan to the next General Convention in 2015 "for reforming the Church's structures, governance, and administration."

Julian Gathering on Aug. 8th in Madison
All are invited to the August Madison-Area Julian Gathering which takes place Wednesday, August 8, 7:15 - 9:00 PM at St. Dunstan's Episcopal Church (6205 University Avenue, Madison, WI 53705).
Julian of Norwich, ca.1342 - 1416, lived in terrible times: the Black Death (bubonic plague) and repeated famines ravaged the English population; Lollards (then considered heretics) were burned at the stake just outside Norwich; the Hundred Years War with France, the Peasants' Revolt in 1381 and other civil strife meant continual warfare and conflict. Many people and even the Church believed that God was punishing them. How could anyone who lived at the time believe in the unconditional love of God?
"In a medieval church which emphasized God's condemning wrath, Julian wrote, 'There is no wrath in God....It is the most impossible thing that can be that God would be angry, for wrath and friendship are two opposites.'" (from the Order of Julian of Norwich's website: http://www.orderofjulian.org/julian_of_norwich.html
Join us in reading and discussing Julian's "Revelations of Divine Love" and practicing contemplative prayer together. Our next meeting is August 8. For more information, contact Susan Fiore, AOJN: slfiore@mac.com; (608) 845-2413. |

Women of Faith - October 5-6, 2012
Gayle Radavich, Director of Christian Education at St Thomas of Canterbury in Greendale, says: You've never seen Women of Faith like this before! We all experience good times and bad days, triumphs and tragedies. But no matter what life throws at you, this is what matters: God loves YOU. (Always has. Always will.) You're invited to be part of a very special celebration. Compelling stories, Bible-based teaching, world-class music, unstoppable inspiration, and a few surprises combine for an experience like no other. God loves you! And that means there is always a reason to celebrate.
Our soul waits for the LORD; He is our help and our shield. For our heart shall rejoice in Him, because we have trusted in His holy name. Psalm 33:20-21 NKJV
My friends and I from St Thomas will be attending for the third year. It has been great fun and has brought us closer to one another as a church community, as well as building stronger friendships. I strongly urge you to go to the website, www.womenoffaith.com and watch the video, see the line-up, and order your tickets! There are standard and premium seats, along with discounts for 10 or more people.
