ERD seeks support for victims of deadly storms
Bulletin from Episcopal Relief &Development (ERD)

Please keep in prayer all those impacted by yesterday's deadly storms and tornadoes in the Midwest and South. We've reached out to dioceses in affected areas and are standing by to assist. Additionally, we're in contact with partner churches in Madagascar in the wake of Cyclone Giovanna, which has killed 31 and left 250,000 homeless. Please also pray for this situation, which Bp. Jean Paul Solo calls "desperate."  Episcopal Relief & Development is also requesting the prayers of our Network for those impacted.

Note: Those wishing to contribute to ERD may do so at www.er-d.org

Diocesan Executive Council seeks input from clergy and laity for strategic planning process
The Executive Council of the Diocese of Milwaukee has sent a letter to all parishes and clergy of the diocese asking for their input on the diocese's strategic planning process.  Input is also sought from the diocese's lay people.  In an accompanying cover letter, Bishop Miller states, "specifically, we are seeking to discern where God is calling us in mission and ministry, that we may be more effective witnesses for Christ.  We need the thoughts, observations, and suggestions of a broad spectrum of clergy and laity to make our strategic planning process a success."

The letters from the Executive Council and Bishop Miller may be accessed HERE
Input may be sent to info@diomil.org .

Diocesan Convention workshop topics sought on 'grace upon grace' theme
The 165th Convention of the Diocese of Milwaukee will be held on October 12-13, 2012 at the Marriott Hotel and Conference Center in Middleton.  This year's convention theme is taken from the first chapter of John's Gospel, "From his fullness we have all received grace  upon grace." This builds on last year's Convention theme, which encouraged engaging in ministry from a mindset of abundance.  Early plans call for a number of workshops at Convention which will center around the idea of "grace upon grace".  Clergy and laity of the diocese are encouraged to submit their suggestions for specific workshops that fit this theme.  Please click HERE for a letter from Canon David Pfaff with more details and instructions for submitting workshop topics.

  Request for Labyrinths

The Women's Spirituality Retreat being held March 16-17 is in need of lap-size (hand held) labyrinths.

If you or your parish has a labyrinth we may borrow, please contact Rev. Carla McCook by email at McCook@diomil.org. Thank you.

St. Francis House update

St. Francis House, the Diocese of Milwaukee's ministry to the University of Wisconsin-Madison, is working on exciting changes! Our building will be moved on our University Avenue site to make room for an apartment building that will provide revenues to support our ministry. In preparation for the deconstruction of the large chapel, Bishop Miller will deconsecrate the space on Saturday, March 10, at 5 pm.

The Board of St. Francis House had intended to find a new home for the St. Francis mosaic. Sadly, due to the installation method used, the cost of preserving the mosaic is prohibitive. The mosaic will be professionally photographed. The materials will be salvaged, and the beauty of the mosaic will live on in other forms. Arrangements are being made to move the black marble altar to an outdoor worship space at St. Dunstan's. Good Shepherd Episcopal Church in Sun Prairie will receive the stained glass.

While we are displaced from our physical location, our community continues. Grace Episcopal Church has welcomed the St. Francis House Episcopal Student Center. The St. Francis House office has been relocated to Grace and the St. Francis House community gathers at Grace at 5 pm on Sundays for Holy Eucharist celebrated by Father Mike Tess. The service is followed by a home-cooked dinner. If you or your parish is interested in providing a dinner, please contact Beth Wroblewski at stfrancisuw@gmail.com for more information.

At 6 pm on Wednesdays we gather at the Memorial Union for Evening Prayer followed by Theology on the Terrace-dinner and conversation about a wide range of topics.

If you know a student on the UW Madison campus, please tell them about St. Francis House! If you send their name and contact information to us at stfrancisuw@gmail.com we will invite them personally.

The average life expectancy is less than 50 years old. More than half of their homes are considered substandard. Alcoholism, diabetes, heart disease, suicide, and infant mortality are all well above the national averages.

Julian Gathering Celebrates Fourth Year

The Madison-area Julian Gathering is beginning our fourth year; a number of people have come to see what we're about and some have become 'regulars.' We welcome everyone who is interested in learning more about contemplative spirituality in the Christian tradition. We meet monthly for contemplative prayer for twenty-five minutes, after which we discuss a reading from Julian of Norwich, a 14th Century English mystic. These gatherings are supported by the Order of Julian of Norwich, a contemplative monastic order in the Episcopal Church.

We meet the second Wednesday of each month at 7:15 PM at St. Dunstan's Episcopal Church, 6205 University Ave., Madison, WI. We end promptly at 9 PM. We would love to have you join us. Our next meeting is March 14. For further information, contact Susan Fiore, AOJN at (608) 845-2413 or slfiore@mac.com.

KAIROS  PRISON MINISTRY

While no definite prison or dates have been selected yet, volunteers are needed now!  Men and women willing to commit to serving on teams when the program is ready to begin. Teams of 24-36 peopel are needed for each prison.  Training is provided prior to each weekend.

Consider getting involved . . . and please pray for the success of Kairos in Wisconsin. More information is available at www.kairoswi.org or by contacting Pat Pellechia at ppellechia60@yahoo.com or 262-853-4053.

DeKoven Center's Second Tuesday series features Sudan mission trip

The Second Tuesday series at The DeKoven Center, 600 21st Street, Racine, announces an exciting and thought provoking presentation for its "nearly spring" gathering on March 13. in historic Taylor Hall on the west side of campus. This popular morning of fellowship and reflection begins at 10:00 with coffee and conversation in historic Taylor Hall on the west side of campus, with the program following in the Library.   Everyone is cordially invited!

A church in the Sudan

Featured speaker will be the Rev. Kevin Goodman, Associate Dean of the Episcopal Cathedral of St. James in Chicago, who will share 3 video clips from his recent trip to the Sudan, a venture led by Bishop Jeff Lee of Chicago in order to support and uphold the burgeoning church in that area.

Photos taken on the recent mission trip to the Sudan

Fr. Goodman was coordinator of a media team which recorded the astonishing witness of these Sudanese Christians who have lived their faith in the midst of violence and persecution. His own theological reflections will accompany the video recordings of their stories which in so many ways reflect the mystery of the Passion and Resurrection.  The presentation will afford a unique experience for those who come: hearing and seeing contemporary Christians whose life of faith has emerged "out of the great tribulation." We hope many will join us.

 LENTEN QUIET DAY

Trinity Episcopal Church in Janesville

Saturday, March 3rd, 2012

9:00am to 4:00pm

Trinity begins its Lenten season with a traditional retreat day to help us focus on the journey of our Lord and His journey to Jerusalem and the cross. How does that journey get lived in the 'day to day' of schedules, interruptions, family and personal needs? The scriptures give the example of Jesus slipping away in the dark to pray, often unknown to the disciples. To help us on this journey of Lent, the meaning of which is "spring", our friends Catherine and Ken Jacobson will assist us to find our path in the midst of bumpy roads. They bring a unique background of being practicing Quakers with an Episcopal history. Ken recently earned his PhD. in New Testament studies and is adjunct professor at Chicago Divinity School. This richness and diversity is a gift to all. Trinity is located at 409 E Court Street, Janesville WI, 53545. Contact the office at 608-754-3402 for more information.
