Blue Christmas:
A Service for When Christmas Hurts
Sunday, December 18, 4 pm at St. John the Divine Episcopal Church, Burlilngton
Recognizing the bittersweet nature of the holiday season for those who have suffered loss, this is a sacred time for those who are grieving. It is a time to come and join in sharing and hearing prayers, Scripture and music that acknowledge that God's presence is for those who mourn, for those who struggle - and that God's Word comes to shine light into our darkness. As part of worship, those gathered will be invited to light a candle and place it on the Altar-table, naming before God their losses. This service is an ecumenical Christian service.
The service will be at 4 p.m., Sunday, December 18, at St. John the Divine Episcopal Church, 216 East Chandler Boulevard, Burlington, WI (on the triangle of Edward, Perkins and Chandler). For directions or further information, please call the church office at 262-763-7482 ext. 21.
The service will be followed by a time for light refreshments and fellowship. If this season is hard for you, know you are welcome at this worship service. If you know others who are finding this season difficult please invite them to be with us and perhaps in some way to experience the wonder and hope of Christmas.

Consider supporting our Companion Relationship for Christmas
 | Some of Newala's precious orphan children . . . | Looking for gift suggestions for someone who really doesn't need "a new tie" ? Check out the following.....
- The Cow Project herd now has 8 cows ( three due to calf soon) and the bull calf ( they names him "America"). The milk that is produced is sold to the community and the proceeds go to the Diocese. This is a work in progress...a wonderful start.
- The 75 Aids orphans have places to sleep but need support for school, medical, clothing and eating expenses.
- Really this a part of "B"...the CMM Sisters of Saint Mary's Cathedral parish who provide care for the above kids want to expand their chicken "herd" so that they can sell eggs ( and chicken meat ) to help support them. This a new proposal.
- The HIV/AIDS workshop funded this year by a grant from our Diocese' Commission on Global Reconciliation was a success. Priests from throughout the Diocese of Newala and several choirs met with medical staff met last month. They received training that will be used to educate the surrounding community. People were tested too and nine were found to be positive. They are slated to receive more medical help. The Diocese of Newala would like to repeat this program.
- St. Michael's Health Centre Maternity Ward received significant equipment funding from the UTO, but there is still more assistance that is requested for the medical work, especially as the new work of refurbishing the Male and Female Surgical Wards started.
Checks may be sent and made out to the Episcopal Diocese of Milwaukee. The project choice can be indicated on the check. If no choice is indicated, it will be Newala's choice. For more information please contact Neil Radtke, Chairperson of the Companion Relation Committee.

United Thank Offering (UTO)
grant applications available
NOTE: This year the Diocese of Milwaukee received a grant for $11,567 for the equipment and supplies for the maternity unit of the reopened hospital in our companion diocese, the Diocese of Newala. The unit was opened this month which is a wonderfully quick turn-around for the grant money.
TWO DATES to be aware of if you have a fall ingathering and/or seek a UTO grant:
The application for the UTO grants to be given in 2012 is now on the website of the UTO at www.dfms.org/UTO click on the grants line under United Thank Offering to get the application screen. Those applications need to be in the diocesan office by DECEMBER 20, 2011. That will give the diocesan grant committee time to evaluate the applications and pass their recommendations on to Bishop Miller so that the applications will be at the national office by January 15, 2012. We can submit one application for our diocese. We also can submit an application for a companion diocese such as the Diocese of Newala or for a program such as our relationship with Jeanette, Haiti. Preference is given to applications addressing the needs of women and children.
The deadline for contributions from fall ingatherings has been moved forward also. If your parish has such an offering, please send it to Ms. Connie Ott, Diocesan UTO Coordinator, at 7995 Shagbark Circle, Cross Plains, WI 53528 by DECEMBER 1, 2011 so that it can be at the national office by December 15. Money received by DECEMBER 1, 2011 will be used in the granting cycle for 2012. For more information go to the UTO website or contact Connie Ott, at cott@chorus.net or (608) 798-3688.
