CATHEDRAL BOOK SALE
HUGE SUCCESS!
Over $20,000 was raised by this year's just-completed Great Hunger Book Sale at All Saints' Cathedral in Milwaukee. Thanks to the support of members of the diocese and the wider community, this is 15th year in a row that the sale has taken in over $20,000 -- all of which supports anti-hunger initiatives, including local programs such as The Gathering.
The Cathedral's Great Hunger Book Sale takes place every year during the first full week of August. It's not too early to start saving gently used fiction and non-fiction books as well as CDs/tapes for next year's sale!

MISSIO Conference Sept 30-Oct.1 at Christ Church Cathedral, Cincinnati,OH
MISSIO is gathering of emerging church leaders, mainline leaders, and Fresh Expressions practitioners, for conversation and collaboration in (re) imagining church in ways that are radically incarnational and contextual to embody the Gospel and Reign of God in today's culture. MISSIO is an opportunity for people in traditional congregations to dialogue with leaders of emerging Christianity, to discover innovative resources for building community through radical hospitality, emergent worship, and missional church planting within a postmodern and post-secular world. MISSIO, will explore what it means to be what the Archbishop of Canterbury, Rowan Williams, calls a "mixed-economy church," where traditional congregations and new expressions of church work together to participate in God's mission in the world. Bring a team from your congregation to MISSIO and learn to engage God's mission in new and fresh ways!
Detailed INFORMATION and REGISTRATION is ONLINE at: http://missioconference.org
'SUSTAIN' Pre-Conference
September 29 in Norwood, OH

SUSTAIN will explore what it means to live our faith collectively, in a particular place. This unique gathering will explore local food, community gardening, neo-monastic practices and building local economies. There will be a walking tour of the neighborhood to see first hand the various kingdom expressions and experiments that have emerged in this particular place. Two meals will bookend our time together. A lunch, prepared with locally grown food, will be provided by the community and then together we will host a neighborhood barbecue for dinner. In between you'll hear short presentations from various members of the Norwood Collective and go on a short walking tour. Think of it as a workshop, with a mini-pilgrimage, ending with a neighborhood party. Sustain is hosted by the Norwood Collective and Vineyard Central and curated by Episcopal Village in partnership with the Episcopal Diocese of Southern Ohio.
Detailed INFORMATION and REGISTRATION for both events is ONLINE at: http://missioconference.org

The DeKoven Center, 21st Street and Wisconsin Avenue in Racine, once more invites its many friends to enjoy a leisurely Sunday afternoon walking DeKoven's wooded campus and visiting its fabled gardens which a dedicated group of Master Gardeners has brought to full summer array.
For five years, the DeKoven Center has been a member of England's Quiet Garden Movement, with a growing membership on both sides of the Atlantic. The goal of the Movement is simply to open beautiful and historic gardens for an afternoon of leisure in busy lives, and DeKoven is proud to share its vision. Guests are invited to bring musical instruments, materials for drawing, notebooks for poetry. "Bring your children," invites Director Max Dershem. "This is a family afternoon."
The Rt. Rev. Roger White, Tenth Bishop of Milwaukee (retired) and a beloved DeKoven gardener, will offer a gathering meditation at 2:15 in the Bishop's Garden beside Taylor Hall on the east side of the campus. Sustainability of Earth program at Christ Church, Whitefish Bay
Join us in the Great Hall of Christ Church, Whitefish Bay, for our second Sustainability Series, Wednesday evenings, 10, and 17th from 6:00 - 7:30 for some scripture reflection on sustainability/stewardship of the earth, a potluck supper, and discussion on the week's topic along with guest speakers. The Second discussion in this series will focus on our use of water.
"The Global Water Crisis, the Great Lakes and Our Future". The Laurentian Great Lakes contain nearly 1/5 of the world's surface freshwater, yet despite their size these are surprisingly fragile systems. This presentation will take a look at the state of the world's freshwater resources and the "global water crisis"; and the state of our Great Lakes and impacts of pollution, exotic species invasions, and climate change. It will also look at what University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, in cooperation with the public and private sector, is doing to help lead our efforts to preserve and protect these systems for the future.
Dr. Val Klump is the Director and a Senior Scientist at the Great Lakes WATER Institute, and Professor of Freshwater Sciences at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. His research on how nutrients and carbon are cycled in lakes has taken him from the deepest sounding in Lake Superior aboard a research submersible, to the largest and oldest lake in the world -- Lake Baikal in eastern Siberia. more on Val Klump, Ph.D.
