Kate McKey to coordinate camp ministry youth programming

An announcement from Bishop Miller

I am pleased to announce a transition in the Office of Christian Formation.  For the last two years, Kate McKey has been working hard to get our Resource Center up and running as well as assisting Shannon in getting youth programs off the ground.  Now that the Resource Center is established it will be moving to a more centrally located place in the Diocese and overseen at that location.  Kate will be taking on new responsibilities as the Camp and Youth Program Coordinator.  Her primary focus will be to coordinate the camping ministry and youth programming within the Diocese.  She and The Rev. Carla McCook have already had initial discussions about how to continue these programs, grow and expand them to better serve the Diocese.  We are pleased that she is taking on these important ministries and welcome her into her new role."

Sustainability of Earth program at Christ Church, Whitefish Bay

Join us in the Great Hall of Christ Church, Whitefish Bay, for our second Sustainability Series, Wednesday evenings, 10, and 17th from 6:00 - 7:30 for some scripture reflection on sustainability/stewardship of the earth, a potluck supper, and discussion on the week's topic along with guest speakers.  The Second discussion in this series will focus on our use of water.

"The Global Water Crisis, the Great Lakes and Our Future".   The Laurentian Great Lakes contain nearly 1/5 of the world's surface freshwater, yet despite their size these are surprisingly fragile systems.  This presentation will take a look at the state of the world's freshwater resources and the "global water crisis"; and the state of our Great Lakes and impacts of pollution, exotic species invasions, and climate change.    It will also look at what University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, in cooperation with the public and private sector, is doing to help lead our efforts to preserve and protect these systems for the future.

Dr. Val Klump is the Director and a Senior Scientist at the Great Lakes WATER Institute, and Professor of Freshwater Sciences at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.   His research on how nutrients and carbon are cycled in lakes has taken him from the deepest sounding in Lake Superior aboard a research submersible, to the largest and oldest lake in the world -- Lake Baikal in eastern Siberia.   more on Val Klump, Ph.D.

Julian Gathering set for August 10 in .Madison

Julian of Norwich: 14th Century feminist?  14th Century heretic?  No, although a reader might at first think so.  14th Century psychologist?  Sort of . . . she understood the human heart and, through her sixteen revelations of Jesus, she understood the heart of God.  Thomas Merton called her "the greatest theologian for our time."   Come find out why -- and learn about contemplative prayer.  We'd love to see you.

New priest at Jeannette

Ways to Support our Partners in Jeannette, Haiti

Meet the new Priest in Charge at the Parish of Saint Marc in Jeannette Haiti. That is Pere Wisnel Dejardin there on the left.  I was very privileged, as a member of the Diocesan Haiti Project Steering Committee, to  travel to Jeannette and meet Wisnel as he begins his ministry at Saint Marc's.  It was indeed very gracious of him to host us when he has only been in the parish for two weeks.  He has a lot of work to do, a lot to learn, and he took a lot of time to get to know us  and to begin a relationship that we hope will last for many years.

Pere Wisnel's arrival represents a new beginning for the Parish of Saint Marc's.  They are not starting over, theirs is a strong, vibrant and growing community, but they are now in a place of self examination, reflection, and renewal.  Moments like these are moments of joy and wonder at the possibilities and potential that lie ahead.  I am very grateful to have been a part of their celebrations.

There are many ways that we can join our Brothers and sisters in Jeannette as we all celebrate the future that lies before them, Father Gary Manning, Rector of Trinity Wauwatosa is raising money for the Haiti Project by riding his bicycle around the perimeter of the Diocese of Milwaukee.  You can support our partners in Haiti by making a pledge to the Tour de Diomil at: http://tourdediomil.weebly.com/  You can also support the people of Jeannette and their new priest by buying Singing Rooster Coffee or by sponsoring a student at the school in Jeannette.  There is a lot of information about the Haiti Project at:  http://www.haitiproject.org/

There is also something that you can do right away to help Pere Wisnel and his community.  The church in Jeannette is in need of a sanctus bell and a thurible.  I have asked the keepers of the Diocesan Altar Guild "Closet" and we don't have either item available at this time.  Do you have a gently worn thurible or sanctus bell in your Altar Guild Closet that needs a good home?  If so please contact Fr. Andy Jones at rector@standrews-madison.org.  we will see that it gets to Jeannette!

Please keep the wonderful people of Jeannette, of Saint marc's Parish and Pere Wisnel Dejardin in your prayers as they set out on the next stage of the journey together!

Seefeldt biker picture    The Rev.

Scott Seefeldt joins Wisconsin AIDS ride

(reprinted from WiscNews.com)

The Rev. Scott Seefeldt wants to make a difference, but this time it won't be from the pulpit. Seefeldt will be on the seat of his Trek in his second Wisconsin AIDS ride.

Seefeldt, 36 of Baraboo, who has been spinning his wheels for nearly a decade, is the pastor at Trinity Episcopal Church, 111 6th St. in Baraboo. He said the Act 9 Wisconsin AIDS bike ride will allow him an opportunity for thought and prayer while he pedals across the state.

"It's really a win-win," he said. "The church allows me a certain number days for retreat and what better way to use that time than for a good cause?"  Read full story
