WCC resource for discussion of Wisconsin State budget
Wisconsin's Governor and Legislature are considering major changes inour State... changes that will affectbusinesses, schools, local services, and especially poor people. Much of the rhetoric swirling around this divide has been heated, bitter, exaggerated, insulting, and infl ammatory.
How should the churches of Wisconsin respond? How should
we live out our Christian faith in this setting?
The Wisconsin Conference of Churches offers a short booklet, "Faith and Facts" that is intended to help us think about how our Christian faith can guide us as we grapple with these questions.

Making Great Strides at
Holy Cross, Wisconsin Dells
Holy Cross Episcopal Church took "Great Strides" for one of their own, and for the thousands of others who have Cystic Fibrosis last Saturday, May 21, in Wisconsin Dells/Lake Delton. Team "Go-Go-Jo" joined with 300 other walkers to raise over $66,000 to help "blow away Cystic Fibrosis. The Rev. Joan Smoke, rector, reports that, "We then all showed our support again on Sunday morning by all wearing t-shirts or purple shirts & jeans as we gathered to give thanks to God for all that God is doing for us, with us, and through us as we celebrated Holy Eucharist."
Josie Griffin is the young lady front and center, saluting the camera! She is the daughter of parishioners Rachel and Jacob Griffin. |

THANK YOU FOR PRAYER
I cannot thank everyone personally but before and after my surgery I felt held up in prayer. As I was being "wheeled in" I said to the doctors and surgical nurses, 'You are being prayed for along with me as we do this!" They were as gratified as I was and the surgery went well even when they found some things they did not expect. (God doesn't have a "cookie cutter" to make us all the same.)
It has been a month now and even after a few "bumps in the road" I am now able to walk the bike trails and do light exercise. I attribute it to prayer and love from clergy and parishes.
In gratitude to God, the Saints and Angels,

News from Shannon Kelly and Tom Ferguson
Dear friends and colleagues: It is with great excitement that we share the news that Tom has accepted the position as Dean of Bexley Hall, (http://www.bexley.edu/) one of the eleven seminaries of the Episcopal Church, located in Columbus, Ohio. For Tom, this seemed like a wonderful opportunity to continue in ecumenical partnerships, while allowing for a more intentional focus on teaching and formation for ministry. While Shannon does not have a job lined up yet, we are certain that there will be plenty of opportunity for ministry in Ohio!
Tom will move there in July to unpack and settle in while Shannon completes summer camp. Bishop Miller is in the process of discerning what this position will look like after Shannon moves on. We are so thankful for my five years in the diocese of Milwaukee, including the opportunity to minister with so many fine clergy colleagues, to work with children, youth and adults from all over the Diocese and to be blessed to work with so many wonderful young adults at St Francis House.

BRICKS TO REBUILD CATHEDRAL IN HAITI
Bob Hayden, a member of St. Peter's West Allis madecardboard bricks which the people of the parish purchased, with funds to be sent to the Diocese of Haiti to help them rebuild their Cathedral, which was damaged in the earthquake. Purchased bricks, bearing the name of the buyer, are stacked at the foot of the altar. Thus a cathedral is starting to build in front of the altar. (Photo by Deacon Karen Buker)

Julian Gathering
Julian Gathering, June 15, 7:15 - 9:00 PM,
St. Dunstan's Episcopal Church, Madison
The Madison-area Julian Gathering has been meeting monthly for more than two years; a number of people have come to see what we're about and some have become 'regulars.' We welcome everyone who is interested in learning more about contemplative spirituality in the Christian tradition. We meet monthly for contemplative prayer for twenty-five minutes, after which we discuss a reading from Julian of Norwich, a 14th Century English mystic. These gatherings are supported by the Order of Julian of Norwich, a contemplative monastic order in the Episcopal Church.
NOTE: Normally we meet the second Wednesday of each month but we will meet the THIRD Wednesday in June (June 15). We gather at 7:15 PM at St. Dunstan's Episcopal Church, 6205 University Ave., Madison, WI. We end promptly at 9 PM. We would love to have you join us. For additional information or directions, contact Susan Fiore, AOJN at (608) 845-2413 or slfiore@mac.com.

ATTENTION PARISHES!
Time to apply for aid in 2012 from
Mission & Development!
Applications from parishes for 2012 Mission and
Development financial aid are available on the diocesan website www.diomil.org and they due June 3, 2011. Peggy Bean, Bishop's Deputy for Congregational Development, says, "We have changed the application deadline in order to help those applying for aid know the results early enough to plan the 2012 budget. A change the Commission made this past year for those who did receive financial assistance was to have liaisons from the Commission make visits to aided congregations . . . we believe a crucial part of our application process is to meet together to have conversation. In applying for aid you will also have an interview scheduled this summer as part of the application process. Please review the application and if you have questions please contact Peggy Bean at 414-272-3028 or bean@diomil.org .

A message from ERD . . .
In the wake of waves of tornadoes and severe storms, 200 people have died throughout the South and Southeast and widespread damage to homes and civic infrastructure has been reported.
Episcopal Relief & Development has been in contact with impacted dioceses, and is working with local churches to respond in a number of locations.
Pray for those who are at risk or who have suffered losses, for the families of those who have died, and for the rescue and relief teams who are working to save lives and address immediate needs.
Please contribute today to help those devastated by these relentless storms.
Thank you!

Do you ever wonder . . .
How can my church grow? What are my personal strengths and how do I use them? What are different ways to survey the congregation? How do other parishes make this work? How do we make decisions that everyone can support? How do I develop new ministries? How do we build community within our parish and our civic neighbors?
If you are looking for a fresh perspective, peer learning and meaningful discussions about how to work in the parish you love, please join us in CDI (Church Development Institute). Participants attend 8 interactive sessions over the course of two years, beginning November 18-19, 2011. More information on the 2011-2012 CDI class is in our flyer . Contact Peggy Bean, Bishop's Deputy for Congregational Development, for more information or to register. (414) 272-3028/ext. 158 or bean@diomil.org
