Diocesan Convention Welcomes Presiding Bishop

PB in plenary
The Most Rev. Katharine Jefferts Schori 'in our midst' at diocesna convention

The Diocese of Milwaukee welcomed to its 163rd annual convention The Most Rev. Katharine Jefferts Schori, Presiding Bishop of the Episcopal Church.  She was accompanied by her spouse, Mr. Richard Schori, who met with the diocese's clergy spouses Friday morning while the Presiding Bishop with diocesan clergy.  St. Thomas of Canterbury, Greendale, hosted both events, which began after Bishop Steven Miller and the Presiding Bishop held a joint press conference at All Saints Cathedral where they answered questions from television and print journalists.smpress cf

At the convention, which was held at the Italian Community Center in Milwaukee, deputies and visitors participated in a workshop on Friday with the Presiding Bishop, who answered questions from the floor after sharing some of her observations about life in the Episcopal Church-USA, as she has observed it in her travels.  After spending Saturday morning visiting The Gathering meal program and other ministries at St. James, Milwaukee, the Presiding Bishop returned to the convention, where Jane Henning, president of the diocesan Altar Guild, gave her a tour of the Altar Guild's beautiful liturgical liturgical arts and artifacts display.  When the convention's business session concluded, she preached at the closing Eucharist.   St. Martin's, Brown Deer received a visit from the Presiding Bishop on Sunday, where she again preached, at their Sunday Eucharist.

Long-time diocesan staff member Patty Voge-Johnson (Office Coordinator) was married on September 25th to David Jaffke.  Bishop Miller officiated at a beautiful outdoor ceremony at Lime Kiln Park in Grafton attended by family and friends, including most of the diocesan staff!  Many in the diocese know that Patty was widowed five years ago when her husband, Bill, lost a long struggle with cancer, so her happiness in this new marriage is all the more a cause for celebration and thanksgiving!
