Geraniums on the Garth 2010

This has been the official title of the enormous Flower Sale held at St. John in the Wilderness Episcopal Church in Elkhorn, WI for the last 20 years. The sale is always Mother's Day Weekend, Friday from 3-6, Saturday from 9-3 and Sunday morning. This year there will also be an Art component which includes jewelry, garden art, bird houses, and even bakery. All kinds of annuals are available including bedding flats and individual plants. Some items are potted and ready as gifts for Mother's Day or anything else. There are always unbelievable hanging baskets and a large variety of peppers, tomatoes and herbs. Every year our grower surprises us with new and unusual plants which delight our repeat customers. People have been returning yearly from as far away as Madison and Illinois. Many businesses in the area rely on us for their plantings and we never have a complaint about the success of our plants. If interested in placing an order or finding out more about the sale, Call Susan Bell at 262-203-2945 or Mary Koss at 262-723-2178 or e-mail geraniumsonthegarth@yahoo.com .

Book of Remembrance Women of the Diocese, have you heard about the Book of Remembrance? Do you have a woman, or more than one, who, before they died, had been active in your parish and you'd like a special way to honor/remember them? The "BOR" is for you! It's a beautiful old book, with the names of those women who have died lovingly entered in fine calligraphy from the parish they served. Women have done this since 1876 for other women. Each honoree has a card, kept forever, with her information, and how she served; the donation is $10, which goes into a fund, the interest from which the Bishop gives to Diocesan seminary students for help with their education. What a lovely way to remember someone, and help seminarians at the same time. If you aren't sure whether someone from your parish has been included, please contact Meg Haag @ St. Anskar's. If you, or your parish needs cards for this purpose, also contact Meg Haag at 262.538.4455

And a little child shall lead them . . .
As part of the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd level 2 program at St. Bartholomew, four second- and third-graders participated in their first reconciliation with Fr. Tom Papazoglakis. In the parables of the found sheep (Luke 15:1-7), the found coin (Luke 15:8-10), and the forgiving father (prodigal son, Luke 15:11-24),reconciliation is followed by a great celebration. In this case, the children were able to plan and participate as lay ministers in the special Saturday- evening Eucharist. The sash each child wears is decorated with images and words from the parables listed above and the central parable for this series of meditations, the True Vine (John 15:1-11).

 Safeguarding God's Children Trainings
Safeguarding God's Children is a national program put out by Church Pension Group that helps in the education and training for preventing and responding to child sexual abuse in everyday life and in ministry. It is geared to clergy, parents, youth workers, vestry members, congregation members who are responsible for protecting children, employees of churches and church organizations, and volunteers responsible for planning, implementing or supervising ministries, activities or programs for children and youth. The training provides a basic understanding of the dynamics of child sexual abuse, how to recognize signs that a child may have been abused, and what to do if you have concerns about a person's behavior toward a child or youth, or if you suspect that a child or youth has been molested. For all adults concerned about children and youth. It also guides you through steps you can take to prevent child sexual abuse in church and other organizational settings.

The Motto of the Order For His Sake . . .I am one, but I am one. I cannot do everything, but I can do something. What I can do, I will do. What I ought to do, by the grace of God I will do. Lord, what will you have me do?
The Daughters of the King is an international religious order for women who are communicants of the Episcopal Church. Margaret J. Franklin instituted the Order on Easter eve, 1885 at Trinity Church, New York City and chapters are now found all over the world. The Order is sacramental and we take life-time vows of prayer, service and evangelism. It is these two aspects of the Order that make it different from other organizations. Being a Daughter does not preclude anyone from continuing to participate in other organizations. Anyone woman interested in learning more about the Daughters of the King is invited to join us Saturday, May 22, at St. Luke's Episcopal Church, 4011 Major Ave, Madison, WI. Current Daughters-at-Large will meet at 10:00 am. Any interested women are welcome at 11:00 am. We will welcome Lela Joscelyn, the Diocesan President of the Daughters of the King. Peace be with you, Catherine Stanley, Daughter-at-Large |
