 He is Risen!
An Easter message from Bishop Miller

He is Risen -- what more is there to say?  Our Easter Message is that God raised Jesus from the dead as the first fruits of the new live made possible by his victory on the cross. I want all of you to know that this new life is neither past nor future. It is now.  The resurrection of Jesus is not history. Yes, it happened on a specific day in a certain place and time but it is not history because it is not over and past.  He is risen. Christ is Alive, not was or used to be. It is not future either. Yes, we look to the day when the trumpet shall sound and the dead in Christ shall rise but the resurrection and the life it calls us to is for now.

I am particularly mindful of this truth this Easter as I watch in horror the way humans treat one another--- the subway bombings in Russia, the bullying of a girl in Massachusetts to such an extent that she took her own life rather than face daily humiliation and abuse, people plotting murder in the name of the Church of Jesus Christ. All this was made even more poignant as I watched a news commentator speaking in an uncharitable and abusing manner with a very large and prominent cross on her neck. I wanted to jump through the television screen and tell her there was a disconnect between the cross she wore and the manners she displayed.  I was also moved to penitence knowing that certainly there has been the same disconnect in my life.

I mention this because in this age when what passes for debate is little more than shouting, I believe we are called to model a different sort of behavior. If the risen life of Jesus is now, we must show that we have been raised with him by acting and living in ways that show we have a new life, a risen life, a heavenly life in Jesus.  People were drawn to the first Christians because of the way they lived and loved and cared for one another and the world. I believe that people will only be drawn to Christ and his Church if we, his followers, live and love and care as they did.

I invite you, therefore, in the name of the Church to an Easter Life, this day and always. Live in and for HIM.

 Easter Blessings.

+Steven

Ecological concerns are sometimes thought to be foreign to biblical theology.  However, Christians and Jews are often unaware that numerous texts in the Hebrew Bible contain a more complex picture of the relationships between God, humanity, the earth and its creatures.

Trustees of Funds & Endowment announces review

For the past year or so, the Board of Trustees of Funds and Endowments has been discussing the current annual distribution formula for The Combined Fund.  The current rate of distribution is 5% of the average fair market value of the Fund over the prior twenty calendar quarters set annually.  Information received from our investment advisors and our Fund custodian indicates that this is at the high end of current distribution rates for most endowments and foundations.

In the past decade or more the investment markets have not performed as they have in past decades.  The Board is mindful of its responsibility to balance a consistent rate of annual distribution with its responsibilities to both protect the principal of its unit holders' funds and to promote real growth in The Combined Fund.

To this end the Board will embark on a comprehensive
study . . .

The Motto of the Order
For His Sake . . .I am one, but I am one.
I cannot do everything, but I can do something.
What I can do, I will do.
What I ought to do, by the grace of God I will do.
Lord, what will you have me do?

The Daughters of the King is an international religious order for women who are communicants of the Episcopal Church. Margaret J. Franklin instituted the Order on Easter eve, 1885 at Trinity Church, New York City and chapters are now found all over the world. The Order is sacramental and we take life-time vows of prayer, service and evangelism. It is these two aspects of the Order that make it different from other organizations. Being a Daughter does not preclude anyone from continuing to participate in other organizations.
Anyone woman interested in learning more about the Daughters of the King is invited to join us Saturday, May 22, at St. Luke's Episcopal Church, 4011 Major Ave, Madison, WI.   Current Daughters-at-Large will meet at 10:00 am.  Any interested women are welcome at 11:00 am.  We will welcome Lela Joscelyn, the Diocesan President of the Daughters of the King.
Peace be with you,
Catherine Stanley, Daughter-at-Large
