Help for the People of Haiti

Please see the Diocese of Milwaukee Haiti Project and Episcopal Relief and Development websites for updates on diocesan and national Episcopal Church efforts to provide earthquake relief to the people of Haiti.
A letter from Bishop Miller:
Dear Friends in Christ,
Immediately after the January 12th earthquake, I appealed to all parishes in the Diocese of Milwaukee to take a special collection to aid our brothers and sisters in Haiti.
I have been overwhelmed by the response. To date, our parishes have raised over $30,000 for Episcopal Relief and Development (ERD) and the Diocese of Milwaukee Haiti Project. This does not count contributions made directly to these entities rather than forwarded through the diocesan office. To all those who responded to this appeal, please know how much your generosity to those in need in Haiti is appreciated by your bishop. May God bless you!
To parishes that have not yet had an opportunity to take part in this diocesan-wide appeal -- there is still time! The needs in Haiti are great and will remain so for the foreseeable future. For instance, we have learned that Leogane, a town near the Haiti Project's sister parish of St. Marc's in Jeannette, was damaged much more severely than initially reported. Let us continue to hold the people of Leogane, and of all Haiti, in our prayers.
Once again, thank you for your compassionate response.
Yours in Christ,
The Rt. Rev. Steven A. Miller
Bishop of Milwaukee

Community of Hope - Madison
If you have been pondering what to do for your Lenten discipline and personal growth this year, or wish to discover your spiritual gifts for ministry, here is a marvelous opportunity! The Community of Hope program creates Christian communities of lay volunteer pastoral care givers who are united in prayer, shaped by Benedictine spirituality, and equipped for and serving in pastoral care ministries.
Through a 12-week training course, participants explore God's call in our lives. Each participant explores a "rule of life", practices silence and Christian meditation, and attends weekly meetings to learn about pastoral care practices such as listening skills, confidentiality, discovering who you are, coping with grief and loss, and more.
The first Madison area Community of Hope training will commence Thursday, February 11, 2010, from 6:30-8:00 p.m. for 12 weeks at St. Dunstan's Episcopal Church, located on University Avenue at Allen Boulevard. Applications are available now; the modest registration fee is $100. If you are interested in participating or would like more information, please contact Deacon Carol Smith at csmith@carthage.edu or 608-230-6888. A national program that started in Texas in 1994, St. Bartholomew's in Pewaukee has conducted this very successfully for several years. It is the ideal opportunity to deepen your personal faith and discern your path for living out that faith in the world.
