Collecting Ministry Discernment Resources

The Commission on Ministry would like to thank all of those who responded to our request to send us the names of the Spiritual Directors you see and the retreat centers you use.  In addition, we asked for contact information for various formation/discernment processes.  We have posted the information we received on the Commission On Ministry website.

Those lists are incomplete.  We need your help to create a complete list with complete contact information, especially for the Community of Hope, Stephen Ministry, Order of St. Luke, When Members are Missionaries.   This contact list is core to the ability of congregations to send persons whom they have discerned to have a potential call to a specific ministry to those formation/discernment programs already active in the Diocese of Milwaukee in order to test that Call.

So please,  go to www.diomil.org ; click on commssions and committees; click on commission on ministry; and then click on the congregational ministry discernment resources tab.  Or click on http://sites.google.com/a/diomil.org/home/commissions-committees-and-task-forces/com/resources-for-congregational-discernment?pli=1  Look at the lists and send names and contact information to Leanne Puglielli at leanne.puglielli@gmail.com .  Thank you for your help.
DeKoven Center Welcomes Margaret Guenther!
DKgardens

The Rev. Margaret Guenther, for decades an acclaimed spiritual writer and mentor, will lead the Advent Silent Retreat at The DeKoven Center, 600 21st Street in Racine, an opportunity for this season not to be missed.  Even Margaret's title "Emmanuel, come!"echoes Advent's urgency.

The Silent Retreat begins Friday evening, Dec. 4, at 5:00 with a Gathering Reception in historic Taylor Hall and ends on Sunday morning, Dec. 6, following the Holy Eucharist and brunch.

Margaret herself scarcely needs an introduction to Episcopalians.  Former professor of Asescetical Theology at General Seminary and prolific writer, she has long been valued throughout the church as a source of spiritual wisdom and insight.  With her own spiritual journey always in mind, she speaks and writes as a fellow traveler, certainly part of her charm. Several titles will be available for purchase and book signing.

Commuter rates are available, as well as partial scholarships on request and also clergy discounts.  For reservation, email
jpeyton@dekovencenter.org  or phone The DeKoven Center, 262-633-6401.  For information, email kclark@dekovencenter.org
St. Boniface, Mequon
Youth Mission Experience
little mT Know St. Boniface Episcopal Church, mission experience, July 26th thru July 31st of 2009

The older senior high students (Our YAC class) from St. Boniface, Mequon traveled to Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada for mission work through Youth Works this past July.

We were a small group of eight people, but we accomplished much.  We served the area with people from other churches in the United States.  Our tasks ranged from serving the homeless, crack addicts and prostitutes who frequented a local soup kitchen.  Assisted the local "Kids Club" (similar to Vacation Bible School). Assisted in refurbishing a dilapidated church and helped cut a road for a new mission camp "Eagles Cove" for aborigine children.

Our days were full; as one of our students just said "it was a ton of work, but a great experience".  We not only served the Thunder Bay community, but we also served each other on a daily basis.  Everyone attending the mission week was also responsible for daily food preparation, set up, clean up, bathroom duty, hall mopping, devotion's and so on. Our days began early, and were non stop till our heads hit our pillows at night.

One would have thought after such an intense week our group would have been more than ready to be home. But to our amazement we became a family that week, and no one wanted to part company.

This same class is already planning their next mission trip to Denver, Colorado with one stipulation. The two students who are now in college must be allowed to participate this next summer.  Typically this program, depending on your location is for high school students only.  But as stated this past Sunday in class "we are a family".

Participants in the 2009 mission week: Kathryn Clark, Kirstie Smallish, Grace Mortensen, Isak Peterson, Nate Wyka, Joe Wyka, Steve Polzin and Jean Boothby.
