Quiet Garden on Sunday, August 30th from 2-4 pm
The DeKoven Center cordially invites its many friends throughout the Diocese to enjoy its wooded campus and fabled gardens for an afternoon of pleasure and quiet conversation. These hours are the vision of the Quiet Garden Movement in England, established in the 1980's for the sole purpose of providing leisure in the midst of busy lives. The Movement's vision is to open beautiful and historic gardens for a few hours of rest and rejuvenation. The DeKoven Center has been part of the Quiet Garden Movement for several years and is delighted to share this vision. The Rev. Wendy Lane, Church of the Holy Spirit, Lake Forest, will give a gathering Meditation at 2:00.
Bring musical instruments if you like, materials for drawing or painting, or a notebook for poetry. Bring your journal, bring a novel, bring your children. DeKoven's campus is yours for these hours! Free will offering only.
"Befriending Your Shadow" with The Reverend Gary Manning
September 20-22, 2009. DeKoven's Fall Conference (Sunday afternoon - Tuesday Noon)
This conference will be an intriguing experience for anyone daring enough to begin the journey. Father Manning, rector of Trinity Church, Wauwatosa, will bring his own studies in Jungian psychology to this exploration of the perennial mystery of personal identity and what constitutes the human self. Jung's archetypal imagery and his "eight mental functions" will help participants understand themselves a little better, who they are and who they are becoming - an opportunity not to be missed!

September 8 - Second Tuesdays with Kitty 10:00-11:15
The DeKoven Center's popular Second Tuesdays series begins its sixth year on September 8 with coffee and conversation at 10:00 in historic Taylor Hall, 600 21st Street, Racine. Katherine Clark, Canon of St. James Cathedral, Northern Indiana and Spiritual Programs Coordinator at DeKoven, will present the Meditation at 10:30 in the Library. Her theme for this fall day will set Jacob's dream of the ladder between heaven and earth as image and Icon for our own lives. "Surely God was in this place, and I knew it not." Jacob's response to this vision is a welcome reminder for all of us, Kitty notes. There is no charge for this morning of fellowship, though a free will offering is welcome.
This particular Second Tuesday precedes the gala celebration of Bishop Roger White's 25th anniversary of Episcopacy which will begin at noon in historic St. John's Chapel. Everyone is cordially invited to share this happy occasion.

Journey to Adulthood Training

An evening session, open to parents, youth leaders, vestry members, and anyone seeking to strengthen youth programming within the parish. This session will give an overview of Journey to Adulthood (J2A)~ a parish program of spiritual formation for youth. Topics covered include some of the theological and developmental theories that support J2A. Coffee and dessert will be provided.
Saturday, October 3, 9:00am-3:00pm
Saturday brings a full day of training for adult leaders (current leaders and new leaders) of the Journey to Adulthood, as well as anyone exploring the possibility of starting a J2A program in your own parish. Saturday's agenda includes an overview of the entire program, then look at each of the three units; Rite 13, "J2A", and Young Adults in Church in greater detail. We will discuss practical, hands-on suggestions for lesson plans and youth activities, including Sunday mornings sessions, mission trips & Pilgrimage, leadership recruitment and training, parental support, and the many resources and opportunities available in this remarkable program. Forum on Domestic Violence
Holy Cross Episcopal Church in Wisconsin Dells is hosting the South Central Wisconsin Christian Faith Communities Forum on Domestic Violence on Tues Sept. 29, 2009 from 8:30-4:30 PM. This is presented by Hope House of South Central Wisconsin. Speakers include a survivor, Bonnie Hill, authority on abusers, Dr. Darald Hanusa, Hope House Community Education Coordinator, Jess Ritschke, and the Rev Joanne Skidmore on Cultivating Compassion. There will then be a panel of various service providers. The forum is intended for clergy, lay leaders, parish nurses, directors of religious ed., and anyone looking to learn more about domestic violence from a Christian faith perspective. "Make us One with Christ"
On Sunday Oct 4th at 10:30 AM Holy Cross Episcopal Church in Wisconsin Dells will be having a joint service with the Dells-Delton United Methodist Church with whom we share a building. This will be to kick off a four or five session study by both congregations based on "Make us One with Christ" Study Guide prepared by the offices of Ecumenical and Interfaith Relations of The Episcopal Church and the General Commission on Christian Unity and Interreligious Concerns of the United Methodist Church prepared by the Rev. Thomas Ferguson, Ph.D. and The Rev. W. Douglas Mills, Ph.D.
The Rev Tom Ferguson, interim chaplain at St Francis House, will be with us and preach on that Sunday morning. We will also have the Rev Ed Johnson, retired Elder from the Wisconsin Conference of the United Methodist Church who has worked on ecumenical affairs on the local and national level of the United Methodist Church. Following the service there will be a pot-luck lunch and a panel discussion with the Revs Ferguson and Johnson. All are welcome to come. Follow up sessions will be on Oct. 8, 22, Nov 5 and 12 starting each night at 6:30pm.
