GM ENLGFruit of the Vine . . .
(by Isral DeBruit, reprinted from Wauwatosa NOW)
"In vino veritas," quoted the Rev. Steven Peay, senior minister at First Congregational Church of Wauwatosa. It's an old Latin proverb that means, "In wine there is wisdom."
That's not to discount beer. Peay said Martin Luther preferred theological discussion over a cold one - er, stein.
In that same tradition, Peay has joined the Rev. Gary Manning, rector at Trinity Episcopal Church, in offering spiritual dialogue to all comers at Village wine bar Vino 100, 1442 Underwood Ave.

Education for Ministry (EFM) forming classes
EFM groups throughout the diocese are in the process of registering and forming classes for the 2009-2010 year. If you are interested and need to find a group near your home, please contact Ellie Moseley, diocesan coordinator at [email protected] or call (414) 967-0736.

Education for Ministry (EFM) in Madison area

Education for Ministry (EFM) is a 4-year theological distance education program through the University of the South (Sewanee). If you have ever considered becoming a part of EFM, please prayerfully consider whether the time might be right for you now. We need to find one or two new students in the next couple of weeks so that we can keep the program alive. The Education for Ministry (EFM) group at St. Dunstan's is in danger of disbanding due to not meeting minimum membership requirements. For the last several years EFM at St. Dunstan's has equipped individuals for effective lay ministry, and has had a life-changing influence on the personal spirituality of group members.
[email protected]  for more information, including details on cost, financial assistance, and time commitment.

Happening at The DeKoven Center

Quiet Garden on Sunday, August 30th from 2-4 pm

The DeKoven Center cordially invites its many friends throughout the Diocese to enjoy its wooded campus and fabled gardens for an afternoon of pleasure and quiet conversation.  These hours are the vision of the Quiet Garden Movement in England, established in the 1980's for the sole purpose of providing leisure in the midst of busy lives.  The Movement's vision is to open beautiful and historic gardens for a few hours of rest and rejuvenation.  The DeKoven Center has been part of the Quiet Garden Movement for several years and is delighted to share this vision.  The Rev. Wendy Lane, Church of the Holy Spirit, Lake Forest, will give a gathering Meditation at 2:00.

Bring musical instruments if you like, materials for drawing or painting, or a notebook for poetry.  Bring your journal, bring a novel, bring your children.  DeKoven's campus is yours for these hours!  Free will offering only.

"Befriending Your Shadow" with The Reverend     Gary Manning
September 20-22, 2009.  DeKoven's Fall Conference (Sunday afternoon - Tuesday Noon)
This conference will be an intriguing experience for anyone daring enough to begin the journey.  Father Manning, rector of Trinity Church, Wauwatosa, will bring his own studies in Jungian psychology to this exploration of the perennial mystery of personal identity and what constitutes the human self.  Jung's archetypal imagery and his "eight mental functions" will help participants understand themselves a little better, who they are and who they are becoming - an opportunity not to be missed!

Suggested donation: $200   Partial Scholarships and Commuter Rate available

SOUSMANBe part of new church building for St. Mary's, Dousman
St. Mary's Parish, Dousman, is looking forward to construction starting on our new church building.  The new church building will be a beautiful house of worship and a place where we can welcome more and more people into the Body of Christ.  As you can well imagine, such an undertaking requires a great deal of faith and prayer as well as a variety of resources, skills, and gifts.  St. Mary's is grateful for your prayerful support and for all the ways our efforts are being supported and aided.  As we look to our new parish church, we find ourselves in need of a variety of church furnishings.  We are hopeful that there may be some parishes in our diocese that may have some items to share with us.  We are looking for the following and would be grateful to know if you might be able to assist us
  • Altar
  • Ambo
  • Chairs for priest, acolyte and deacon
  • Tabernacle/ambry
  • Pews
  • Chairs with attached kneelers
  • Kneelers for devotional prayer
  • Stations of the cross
  • Light fixtures that could be hung in a new church
  • Other items you feel might be worth looking into as we outfit our new worship space.
Many thanks for your consideration and, again, please keep us in your prayers.

Fr. Scott Leannah, St. Mary's, Dousman
Considering Ordained Ministry?

Has the Lord been pestering you, either directly or through someone you know, to consider ordained ministry?  If so, the following dates should be in your calendar.  In addition, if you do not already have a manual, you may download one from the diocesan web site, http://www.diomil.org/commissions-committees-and-task-forces/com/discernment-manual-and-forms or contact me directly and I will mail you a hard copy.  Be aware, this manual is changing as you read this.  As soon as complete it will be published and you will need the updated version.

So, Here's the dates:

Sept 19 -  St. Mary's Dousman - 9:30 - noon --  Information Session for persons interested in the ordination process and their priest.  This will be an informational meeting with plenty of time for questions and answers designed to give you an idea of how the process works and what you can expect along the way.  So, bring pencil and paper for taking notes and we look forward to seeing you at St. Mary's.

Oct 17 - St. Mary's Dousman - 9:30 - 12:30 --  Parish Ministry Discernment Training for folks interested in the ordination process, their priests, and their parish discernment committees.  This meeting is for those who have attended the informational meeting and have received permission from the Bishop to form the Parish Ministry Discernment Committee.  This is a committee of people from your sponsoring parish as well as from other parishes that will spend approximately six months getting to know you and your call to ministry.  We will review the responsibilities of the committee and offer some guidelines about this part of the discernment process.

Nov 6 (evening) through Nov 7 (all day) -- is the Ministry Discernment Weekend at Holy Wisdom Monastery in Madison.   This weekend is for those who have completed the first two steps listed above, have had their medical and psych exams, background check, and financial review and will spend these two days in interviews for postulancy.
