Prayer For Today
A sleeping world emerges to new possibilities Weakening winter's icy grip And birdsong and bleating lamb Announce to all the promise That in due season Creation bursts into life And whilst leaves that fell in winter Lie upon the ground Soon to feed the earth In nature's wondrous cycle Of death and rebirth Within the tree is a stirring of new growth

Desiree Lawson was examined and unanimously approved as ready for Ordination. She will be Ordained in her home Presbytery (Boston) shortly and begin serving Flint-Trinity United as their new pastor later this month.
We welcomed the Rev. Sharlyn Gates (Holly) as a new minister member of the presbytery and the Rev. Clint Cozier (Vassar-First) as Interim Pastor.
We said goodbye to the Rev. Dr. David Pierce (Midland-Memorial and Presbytery Vice Moderator). David will be leaving soon to accept a call in Florida so that he may be close to his children and grandchildren.

We met and heard greetings from the new Synod Executive, the Rev. Raafat Zaki.
We discussed and voted on the new Form of Government (nFOG). By a vote of 32-21, the Presbytery approved the nFOG.
We enjoyed a Celebration of the Lord's Supper together and a beautiful sermon by the Rev. Tom Cundiff. (For those who enjoyed Tom's sermon he has the text of it on his blog. Click here to read it.)
And finally, we extend a huge thank you to Saginaw-Second for hosting the meeting. Your hospitality was greatly appreciated!

The Big Tent is Open!
Registration for the 2011 Big Tent Event is now open.
Join thousands of Presbyterians for your choice of nine national conferences, all under one roof. And children and youth will be vital participants of Big Tent too! Not only will there be child care, and children and youth programs, but older youth will have the option to participate in a Pathways event that will run alongside the Big Tent. The children's and youth programs will take advantage of the location - museums, the zoo, NCAA Hall of Champions and more all offer a great opportunity for easy access off-site experiences!
This is a phenomenal event that you do not want to miss. The Coordinating Team has set up 10 scholarships for Elders who would like to attend the National Elders Conference. The scholarship will cover the cost of registration ($285). Participants will cover the cost of lodging ($99/night at the JW Marriott) and any meals not included in the registration price. They have also arranged for vans to transport anyone who is interested in saving some money that way. The scholarship application may be found on our website on the Forms and Brochures page under the Resources tab. If you have any questions, please contact Staci Percy via e-mail at spercy@presbylh.org or at the Presbytery Office at 800-621-6905 x2.

Mission to the USA
Mission to the USA is alive and flourishing in the Synod of the Covenant!
Mission to the USA
September 28 - November 9, 2011
MEXICO AND CUBA
If your congregation has an interest in the Mexico or Cuba or you would like to host a church leader from one of these countries, you might want to learn more about the 2011 Mission to the USA program.
In the fall of 2011 the Synod of the Covenant is inviting four (4) church leaders from Cuba and six (6) church leaders from Mexico to spend six (6) weeks as staff members of particular congregations. As participants in the Mission to the U.S.A. Program, these ecumenical partners will preach, teach and become a part of a host congregation, celebrating oneness in Christ as they share their stories of faith and teach us about life in their home countries and the ongoing issues there.
Mission partners are not just guests or visitors. They come here as missionaries to us. In our abundance, we usually think about what we have to give to others. Mission to the U.S.A. gives us an opportunity to think about what we might receive from those whose faith may have been shaped by their culture or by persecution, poverty, or politics.
The goals of the Mission to the U.S.A. Program are to:
- Educate members of participating churches about another part of the world and the challenges facing Christians there
- Provide a fresh perspective on the Gospel of Jesus Christ;
- Help U.S. Christians acquire a deepened understanding of the global nature of Christ's church;
- Challenge U.S. Christians to greater faithfulness in our own country
Any church in the synod is welcome to apply. Download FAQ's and application to learn more.
