Hello! I'm simply delighted to be writing this newsletter! Scott and I want you to know all that's happening, and all that God continues to do for us. Thank you for caring so much, and please, rejoice with us as you read!
The day we caught a flight out from Indiana, everything was tremendously smooth. (Well, except for the fact that Beckett, our family hound, wasn't able to fly with us.) The forecast for the day was too hot, so Beckett had to stay back home in Indiana, and is STILL in Indiana with my mom and dad. Even without our family Fox Hound, the trip was still enjoyable and quite smooth. In fact, Scott and I commented to each other about how nice and quiet the whole excursion turned out to be.
After reaching our destination in south Costa Rica, in the city of Ojochal, we had to find a truck fairly fast because we were renting a vehicle for one week at a high price. We were a little nervous about finding the right deal, but just kept praying and believing that God was moving and working out every detail. And He did! After much investigation, we drove north to San Jose, where we met a missionary family getting ready to move back to Colorado in the US. Mario and Deanza had lived in Costa Rica for six years, and decided it was time to go home after pastoring a church. They desperately needed to sell their Toyota Prado, a very popular and expensive truck down here.
Their asking price was $14,000, which was slightly beyond our budget. We had been praying for about $20,000 with which to buy a vehicle, and only ended up with $10,000. After some bartering with Mario, we agreed to pay $11,500, and found out that his father-in-law was the owner of the truck and happened to be in town. The next day, we went to pick up the truck, and discovered that Mario's father-in-law not only owned the truck, but was also pastor of a large church in Colorado Springs, Colorado. After meeting us face-to-face, his father-in-law prayed for us and decided to give us the truck for only $10,000! It was a true miracle, because we were told time and time again that a truck like ours was truly worth anywhere from $14,000-$18,000! God did a miracle for us...so that we could have a reliable truck that's able to handle the rough roads we encounter in southern Costa Rica.
We are truly praising God--He keeps giving us things that we need, and constantly gives us favor with the people we meet. In fact, our next big prayer request is for a home that we can rent long-term.
Also, keep in mind that we plan to host a team of missionaries from the US during February 2013. Please let us know if you'd like to be a part of this! Scott has already pinpointed a location for a mass crusade, very close to where we're living.
We are seeking God about the ministry goals He has in mind for us here. We've often been warned that we need to find out what God wants us to do, because there is so much to choose from. There is always a need, but how does God want us to invest our time?
We miss our home in Indiana, especially our friends and family. It would be great to hear from you via email...I'm often curious about what's going on at home.
More good news to come very soon! Our gratitude is undying!
